OBITUARY.

♦ MR W. G." SLOAN. Mr William George Sloan, who died at 118 Lyttoltou street, Spreydon, oil November 17th, was a son of the late William J. Sloan, of Dickens street. In 1873 lie came out to the Dominion with his parents at the age of two years. He was educated at the; East Christehurch school. He took a keen interest in Church maters, and was for eight years vestryman at St. Mary's Cburrt, Addington. He was on the "\Yest Christen ureli School Committee' for a number of years, and when he moved from the district was elected to the Addington Seliool Committee. He was n keen member of the Loyal Orange Institution, and was a member for thirtytwo years. Me was 11 years in the emplov of C. lhiggan. Casbel street, and later he joined tho staff of the. Aldington railway workshops, whore he served 15 years. Owing to ill-health he- was compelled to resign, and had been almost: a complete invalid since. He was highly respected by all who knew him. He married a daughter of the late Mr F. Thorne. who for many voars had a tannery at Tlangiora. He leaves a family of three sons and three daughters.
