FARMERS' UNION.

MID-CANTERBURY EXECUTIVE. The monthly meeting of the Mid-Canter-bury Provincial Executive .of the Farmers' Union was held yesterday, Mr John Brown presiding.. It was agreed to place on record the splendid services rendered to the Union by the late Mr C. Reid and to forward a letter sympathising with Mrs Eeid in her bereavement. The chairman said ho was calling a conference of all Canterbury branches to receive the report of the delegate to the Minister of Agriculture regarding control or this year's wheat crop and discuss prkc3 for the l92t>-27' crop. The Hinds branch advised, that it was not in favour of an organiser being sent info the district. The "Women's Division of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, which was recently established, wrote setting cut the ai.ms and objects of the Division, and asking for support. i ' Discussion Jipon the ~ establishment of an Emergency Fund for the purpose of fighting the varions battles, of farmers, was introduced by the chairman, who staled that a proposition to placo a small levy on all produce exported was placed before the . executive at' Christchurch last week, but it was recognised that nothing could 'be. done without the assistance of the A. and P. Associations, and it was decided to hold a conference ot Wellington in December to consider the whole question. The president, Messrs J. Carr and A. P. Bruce were appointed to represent the executive at thf; forthcoming Wheat Conference and to meet tho Minister of Agriculture on Monday to discuss the price of fertilisers. Mr F. Frampton was appointed treasurer. The chairman said there was a proposal on foot to establish'one Agricultural -College for New Zealand, and a number of enthusiasts in the North Island were fighting verv hard to have that. College erected in the" North Island. There was a very fine C'oilege at Lincoln, and if the proposed College was established in tho other island, then Lincoln was going to lose its status, It was agreed to discuss the matter with the Minister of Agriculture on Monday. An objection to the Advance Afhburton Association's suggestion to the 'West street railway reserves for the purpose of beautification was expressed by Mr W. "■ till, who feared that the farming community might be deprived of tho convenience of using 'the reserves for tho loading and unloading of tracks. He moved that a resolution be sent .from the Farmers' Union to the Minister of Railways objecting to any suggestion to disallow the use of the reserves for loading purposes.—The motion was lost. Ashburton Branch. At a meeting cf the Ashburton branch, held yesterday morning, Mr H. Watts presided. , With regard to the Dominion Executive s proposal to appoint a paid organiser for Canterbury, it was decided that the timo wns not opportuno for such an appointment. The following motion, moved by Mr W. X, Lill, was carried: "That this branch favouis the Government control of wheat at a price not leas than that agreed upon at the conference some months ago." A further motion in favour of tho continuous control cf wheat by the Government, provided the price was mutually agreed "upon -between the Government and tli® producers, wae also carried.
