COMING-OF-AGE PARTY.

— ; Mr and Mrs George Clarke enter- i tained a large number of friends and j residents in the Scfton Rink Hall on j Tuesday evening, in honour of the oorrj-j ing-of-agc of their younger daughter, i Isobel Haining. The hall had been prettily decorated, and one side partitioned olf for a supper-room. Mrs Clarke received her guests wearing a black satin dress, embroidered with white. The guest of honour wore a simple frock of ivory georgette, with lace panels. Tables for cards were provided in an adjoining room, and the music for the dances was provided by Mr A. J. T. Withers (p>ano) 4 Mr H. ! Oates, of Rangiora (cornet), and Mr J. Cameron (jazz instruments), whilst ex-i tras were played by M,r T. Hannan, Mr A. McNallv, Misses E. Bowbyes, V. Hales, and Coombes, of Cust. The dances were interpersed with games, and a reading was given by Mr P. J. Thorne, and a solo by Miss Eileen Bowbyes. Over 180 guests sat down to a dainty supper. TTie birthday cake, decorated with 21 candles, was cut by the guest of honour. Mr George Clarke welcomed the guests. Mr P. J. Thorne proposed the toast of the health of MTis Isobel Haining, conveying to her the congratulations of the guests, and their sincere wishes for her future. Her uncle, Mr S. "W. Brooker, of Ohristchurch, replied on her behalf. Mr A. J. T. Withers proposed the toast of the* health of Mr and Mrs Clarke, thanking them for their kind and liberal hospitality. The host briefly replied. The guest of the evening was the recipient of a large number of beautiful gifts/ Amongst those present -were: —Mr and Mrs S. W.
