REVOLVER SHOTS.

. MAN 'AND WOMAN ~ ' WOCNDEU- ; AFFRAY IN RICHMOND. A quiet street in. Siebpiond was diqituzbed at 7.30 yesterday morning with thecraahes of revolver shots, and people o£ the neighbourhood, rushing to tho house, fjrom whiclji the sound# had come, found William Thomas Bayliss and hifl wife Ada Bayliss bleeding from bullot wonndfc and razor cuts. The «larm was given by the'son of the unhappy people, Harold Bayliss, aged 19 years, who called ,to a neigh- j hour-for assistance. The youth told that his father had attacked his mother with a razor, and also with a revolver, The son had grappled with hii father, locked him in the house, and had taken his mother on to the back porch, w&ero he attempted to stop the bleeding from her wounds. When ho first called for aid, Harold Bayliss held three blood-stained razors in his hand. '' l The police were called at "once, and medical' aid was summoned. Wounds Not Grievous. When 'jDr. Pairiian arrived at ttte seeno Bayliss was not very violent, but he appeared to be agitated, < The'doctor dressed the wounds of tio injured people, and ordered their removal to j&eChristchurch Hospital. I)«tective-Sergeant X). Connolly has charge of tho cose. It is.stated that neither the man not the woman is in any immediate- danger. The X-ray examination har shown that Mrs Bayliss baa a bullet in the skull and one in the upper part of the cheat, whieh has not penetrated the lung. The man has a bullet under toe scalp, and the other has penetrated the skull. A Seapectcd Family. The Bayliss family have lived quietly for four yeirs in Slater street, BiehmOnd, in a pretty little - bungalow. There is no reliable evidence, although there is the usual crop of rumours, as to what gave rise to the quarrel and the violence. Baylias, it appears, was employed by the New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Association, and was esteemed by his superiors as a most reli- j able man- —industrious and of sober habits. Mrs Bayliss seems to have been likewise esteemed by her' neighbours as a quiet and good woman,, especially fond of her "home, and taking pride in keeping it well. No one in Slater street had the slightest thought that any such affair as this Was likely to occur in the quiet household.
