FURTHER GENERAL DECLINE. INCREASE FOR NEW ZEAALND. (raOX OTO OWX COXMSPOTOMT.) LONDON, October 7. A further decline in migration from the United Kingdom is recorded in a statement covering the first six months of this year, published in the current issue of the Board of Trade Journal, The number of British subjects who left to take up permanent residence overseas was 72,413, as compared with 74,329 in the corresponding period of 1924* The net decrease in the number of emigrants to other parts of the Empire was 16,524. In the case of Canada the decline amounted to 17,715, but there was an increase to New Zealand of 1242. The figures for other Dominions and dependencies show little variation from those of the previous year. British emigrants to the United States during the year ended Jane 30th last numbered 31,916, as against 54,355 for the preceding 12 months. The quota, for Great Britain and Northern Ireland for 1924-25 has been fixed at 34,007. In the six months from January to June, all classes of outward-bound passengers exceeded those arriving in this country by 27,626, a figure which compares with outward balances in the. corresponding period of the two preceding years of 17,413 and 65,053 respectively. Grouped according to the countries of destination, the •movement of British subjects during iie first half of 1925 shows a balance outward of 15,959 passengers to Canada, 10,788 to Australia, "and 4825 to New Zealand, while inward balances are recorded in the case of British. South Africa, India, and the groups of "other parts of the British Empire'' and "other foreign countries." To - u he United States there was an outward balance of 8483, and the total number of passengers proceeding to that country during the year ended: June 30th, was 55,626, against 67,006 in the preceding 12 months. The number of passengers from the Irish Free State to the United Kingdom exceeded those from the United Kingdom to the Free State by 16,859. This compares with 13,778 for the first six months of 1924.
