PICTURE HOUSES. LIBERTY THEATRE. Full.of thrilling episodes. "The Code of the West" is drawing large attendances 10 the Liberty Theatre. The cast include* such sterling actors as Owen Moore, Noah Beery. Constance Bennett. Mabel Ballin, and Charles Ogle. "A Cafe ii: Cairo" Is the second attraction, with Priscilla Dean in the stellar role. "THE CHARMER." FEATURING TOLA NEGRI. ••INTO THE NET. - ' Liberty Theatre patrons during the coming ■week are assured of witnessing a programme right up to the standard required by them. Pola Negri appears for the first time in a comedy-drama, "The Charmer." Produced by Paramount and directed by Sidney Olcott, it ranks well up amidst thn topnotehcrs of the year. The picture is a screen version of Henry Baerlein's novel. "MariP0B»," a story of a Spanish peasant girl, who wins fame as a dancer on Broadway. Tt offers Pola Negri her first comedy screen role. Robert Fraxer and Wallace MaeD©n»ld head the supporting east in the production. MacDonald has the Tote of a son of weatthy parents. who id infatuated with the girl, ■while Fra?.er, -who is cast as MscDonald'a chauffeur in the picture, really falls in love with Mariposa. The story opens in Seville, where Mariposa's dancing attracts many patrons to her mother's inn. It is here that Frazer and MaeDoi!3ld first see her. They leave, carrying -with them many memories. Right after them a prominent theatrical agent arrives in town and sees Mariposa. He immediately suggests that the girl and her mother go to America. They accept, and what follows is a sories of genuine langbs. Love, adventure, and mystcrr are woven into 'lnto the Net" the plot of which revolves around the disappearance of a number of rich and beautiful girls who have been kidnapped by a group of society vultures. The search for these girU forms the basis of the story. Edn* Murphy and Jack Mu>hall are co-featured, Miss Murphy playing the part of the twentieth wealthy girl to be kidnapped, and Mr Mulhall having an active role whorcm ho first tries to find his sister, who has mysteriously disappeared, then tries to prevent the abduction of his sweetheart, and nnaily assists in the rescue of both. Others prominently cast arc Constance Bennett, *rank Lackteen, Bradley Barker, Frances Landau, and Tom Goodwin. The storv of a ? rcat love is unfolded little by little until it stands forth like a beautiful piece of sculpture. Thcrpart of the Queen i s taken by Ailcen Pnngle, whose work throughout the production is admirable, while Conrad -Vagel is seen to advantage as the Englishman.
QUEEN'S THEATRE. "Wings of Youth," now being screened at the Queen's Theatre, is an artistic production. Essentially human, it makes a strong appeal to all who.see it, and also has something of a moral at the back of it. The principal players are Madge Bellamy, Marian Harlan. Kalherinc Perry, and Ktliel Clayton. "The Law and the Lady" is the second-at-traction. GRAND THEATRE, Lilian Gish has the leading role in "The White Sister." now holding pride of place in the film bill at the Grand Theatre. Other players are Ronald. Cblman, Gail Kane,. .'. Barney Shorry, and Charles Land. Hiss Olga Wackcd, assisted by Joan Hnghes, Shona Burrows, Damian Smith, and Billie Hughes, presents a prologue to the film. ♦ STRAND THEATRE. \ ■ The-story of Sally's obscure origin, her struggle'up the ladder of life and love, and fame, is faithfully shown in "Sally," now being, screened at the Strand Theatre. Colleen jfoore is the star. GREATER CRYSTAL PALACE. The leading role in "The Truth About Women," no*' showing at Greater Crystal Palace, ie taken by Hope Hanvpton. Supporting Miss Hampton are popular players like Lowell Sherman, Mary ThurmuD, and David Powell. . The second big feature on the hill is "The Meddler," with William Dennond in the main role.
