NEW ZEALAND SWIMMING COUNCIL.

The Council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association met last evening, Mr W. H. Benson presiding. There were also present: Messrs F. G. Dunn (South Canterbury), J. Jackson (Hawke's Bay), C. Bryant (Wanganui), D. Coulter (Canterbury), A. Mac Donald (Wcstland), A. B. Jacobson (Manawatu), J. R. Buchanan (Nelson), H. Levestam (Ashburton); and B. O'Neill (Wellington). The Canterbury Centre wrote enquiring when record certificates would be available. It was decided to communicate with the various Centres expressing the opinion of the Council that the idea of printing the certificates on vellum or parchment would have to be abandoned on account of the cost involved. The programme for the next New Zealand championships, as drawn up by the Hawke's Bay Centre, were approved. The Royal Society wrote stating that it would no i longer be possible for the Society to provide the-cost of the • championship medals for the.breast-stroke events. The Auckland Centre wrote requesting that the Council should invite a team of Australian swimmers to tour the Dominion the coming season, or, alternatively, that the swimmers should be invited to visit Auckland. The. chairman said that Auckland had evidently overlodked the fact that invitations had already been issued to Australian swimmers, but without result. It was decided that the Auckland Centre should be written to pointing out what had been done in this respect, and asking for suggestions as to any further swimmers to whom invitations should be extended. An application from the Waverley Club for affiliation was referred to the Affiliation Committee. The secretary of the South Auckland Centre wrote stating that if the rules were strictly applied to clubs in that Centre it would be impossible for them to carry on. .It was decided that in view of the difficulties that h'ad been encountered by clubs in this Centre that the fees due for the past two seasons be remitted. A draft annual report and balance-sheet were presented and approved.
