WHERE IS AWARUA?
♦— — . ANXIETY IN CHATHAMS. (press association telegram.) WELLINGTON, November 19. The superintendent of the radio station on the Chatham Islands advises the Secretary-General of the Tost Office that some anxiety is felt for the safety of the steamer Awarua, which was supposed to leave the Chathams for "Wellington last Friday. Continuous westerly and south-wes-terly gales have been experienced, and the vessel may be sheltering round the Islands, but no information is available. Later. The Secretary of the Post and Telegraph Department received the following message from the officer in charge of the radio station at the Chatham Islands at 7.30 this evening:—The constable has just, returned from making enquiries regarding the Awarua, but no definite information is available. Another messenger is leaving for Whangaroa harbour, where the vessel usually shelters, at daylight to-morrow. The weather and sea are now moderate.
