Bayne, Chief Inspector of Mines, is paying an official visit to the West Coast. 3lr Justice Frazer will arrive to-mor-tow from Westport to hold a sitting of 'the Arbitration Court on Friday in Greymouth. He will be accompanied bv Messrs H. Hunter and W. Seott. 'Mr A. Scott, son of Mrs and the late Dr. Seott. of Reefton, has been appointed Stock Inspector at Hokianga. Mr F. G. Dunn, legal manager of the South Blackwater Mines, Ltd., is visiting Reefton. Mr Dunn is accompanied bv his daughter. Mr E. J. Conway, of Reefton, is visiting Wellington, 'having been called there owing to the serious illness of Mrs Conway. Mr F. Gembitsky, transport clerk, Railway Traffic Department, leaves tomorrow on holiday, and will be relieved by Mr J. .T. Anderson. Mr H. P. Lawry, 5.M... is visTHng Murehison. The death took place at Reefton Hospital of Mr John MeTaggart, of Waiuta, aged 73 years. Mr E. L. Kehoe, of the Greymouth Technical High School staff, has received news of the death of his father, Mr James Kehoe, of Dunedin, at the age of 7-5 years, after a few weeks' illness. Mr R. M. Aitkcn, of Auckland, at one time director of the Reefton School of Mines and cyanide expert at the Kccp-It-Dark Mines, Ltd., is revisiting Reefton. The death took place at Hokitika of Mrs Wilson, relict of the late Mr Peter Wilson, after a short illness. The deceased was a native of Scotland, and 70 years of age. She came to New Zealand 62 years ago, and had resided in Hokitika for over 50 years. Her husband predeceased her nearly seven years ago. She leaves a family of four daughters and four sons. Inquest. The inquest concerning the death of Francesco Caldana in the recent motorlorry capsize near Kaiata, which was adjourned on September 18th, will be continued at Greymouth on November 6th, before Mr W. Meldrum, Coroner. Buller Seat. Mr C. S. Bielby, Reform candidate for addressed a large meeting of electors at Blackball last evening. Mr j P. L. Johnston presided, . A vote of | no-confidence in the Reform Government was declared carried on a show of hands, although a considerable part of the audience refrained from voting. Mr H. E. Holland, Leader of the Labour Party, speaks at Waiuta, Blackwater, and Ikamatua to-morrow. Westland Seat. Mr T. E. Y. Seddon, Nationalist candidate, is in. the far south of the Westland electorate. At Waiho Mr Peter Graham presided. Mr Seddon spoke of tourist and other local matters, and was accorded a vote of thanks and confidence. Mr J. O 'Brien is meeting with a good reception in South Westland. On Monday evening Mr O 'Brien speaks at Hokitika, and on Tuesday evening at Greymouth. Golf. | The final for the Omoto Cup was 1 played to-day between Miss N. Tennent and Miss Reynolds, and resulted in a win for Miss Tennent. Popular Priest. The ,Rev. Dr. James Kennedy, of Hokitika, will celebrate the silver jubilee of his ordination on Sunday next. He was ordained a priest by Cardinal Respige at Rome, where the degree of Doctor of Divinity was conferred upon him. Since returning to the Dominion, the Rev. Dr. Kennedy has been stationed at AshburtOn, 'Akaroa, Rakaia, and Methven. He was later appointed . Administrator at Christchurch Cathedral, and for the past three years has been in charge of the Hokitika parish. Somo years ago he accompanied the late Bishop Grimes on an extensive tour of the Pacific Islands and Australia, and he returned recently from a tour of Great Britain, Europe, and America. The Rev. Dr. Kennedy is a son of Mr and.Mrs James Kennedy, of Greymouth, where Mr Kennedy has beeji gas manager for 38 years. Diamond Jubilee. The community of All Saints' Church, Hokitika, will celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of the commencement of Church work in Hokitika on Sunday next with special services, including a children's flower service in the afternoon. On Monday evening a conversazione will be held in the Soldiers' Hall, when several addresses will be given. Buller Biver. Snags in the Buller River are reported to be causing shoaliugs which threaten in flood time to divert the river from its course if the obstacles are not removed without further delay. Blackball Water Supply. The boundaries and valuation list of the special district for the Blackball water supply were approved at a meeting of the Grey County Council held to-day. The water will be brought into the township from the Blackball

Creek, where the Grey County Council owns the water race with the right to thirty heads of water. When the necessary legal formalities are complied with a poll of the ratepayers will be taken at Blackball for th« raising of a loan to carry out the work. Wedding. The wedding of Miss Mary Jane Hayden, daughter of Mr James 'Harden, of Rutherglen, to Mr Charles Henry Kevern, of Xorth Canterbury, was solemnised at St. Paul's Methodist Church. Greymoutli, to-day. The Rev. J. F. Martin was the officiating clergyman. The bride was attended bv her sister. Miss Milly Harden, and Miss Mcintosh, of Christc-hun-h, as bridesmaids. Mr S. Hayden was best man, and Mr George Boucher groomsman^.
