HEATHCOTE NEWS.
Bowling Club. Fine weather prevailed for the opening of the bowling season on Saturday afternoon. The green was in good order, and the surroundings very pretty. The president of the club, Mr J. Round, in declaring the season open, welcomed the large number of visitors, especially - the lady supporters. He referred' to the work which had been done in the off season, and said that the thanks of the Olnb were due to .Mr J. Morgan, green superintendent, for having the green in such excellent condition, and to Mr J. H. Williams, the retiring .secretary. Hie then called upon. Miss Irene Round to throw up the jack, and Mrs Round to bowl the first bowl, which proved a toucher. Friendly game* were played between the members and visitors. The following clubs were represented:—Belfast, Imperial, Kaiapoi, Christchurch, Paparua, Canterbury, Edgeware, and Sydenham. Music wag supplied, and afternoon tea dispensed by the ladies. Children's Social. An enjoyable children's social was held in the Methodist Schoolroom on Saturday evening in aid of the cake stall of the j forthcoming Eose Show. There was a good 1 attendance, and a happy time was spent in games and competitions. Items were contributed by Mcrvyn Cogle, Dulcie Cameron, 'and Hesdames Emmett, Collins, Dickey, and Nelson. Miss D. Westbrooke and • Mrs Nelson acted as accompanists, and Messrs W. Connolly and M. A. McDowell as M.C.'s. The conveners of the evening wero Mesdames G. Cumming, T. Perkins, and W. Scott.
