MILKING SHORTHORNS.
ENGLISH CUP, COMPETITION. Further particulars regarding the cup presented to the New Zealand > Milking Shorthorn Association by the British Association have been receved by Mr W. Hunter (secretary). The Council of the .Home association suggests that the cup be offered as a chal-;> lenge trophy for the best dairy Shorthorn, cow exhibited- at the Royal Show each year' and that it Bhali become the property of the exhibitor winning it four times, not necessarily in succession. In the event of there being l milking trials, and; butter-test classes, the Council further suggests that points gained in these tests be taken into consideration s in making the award. In these circumstances the cup is to be awarded to gaining most points by inspection, milking trial, and butter teat. Inspection points recommended are as follows: . Ist prize to carry SO points, 2nd (prize. 45 points, third prize *•> points, v h o So points, h o SO noints, and commended 25 points. , The secretary of the Dairy Shorthorn Association, England, advises by letter, dated September 9th, that the trophy is being shipped, and if it arrive* in time the Milking Shorthorn Association of New Zealand proposes to have it en view at the Eoyal Show in Christchurch. The half-yearly general meeting of the |New Zealand Association ia to be held in Christchurch during the Royal Show, when the proposed conditions of the trophy will be considered.
