LOCAL LOANS BOARD.
MORE INFORMATION WANTED. (iPICUL TO "TBI Mill.") DUNEDIN, October 17. The Finance Committee of. tho CHy Council reports that a circular has been received from the Ghristehurch City Council dealing with the recent utterance by the Primo Minister concerning tho proposal to establish a Board for considering and determining whether local loans duly authorised by the ratepayers should or should not be raised. The Christchurch Council view the proposal with apprehension) and ask that.local bodies join, in protesting to the Government against any such proposed action. The Finance Committee says it has given the matter careful consideration, and is of the opinion that the information as to Prime Minister's proposals is too vague to admit of a definite view being expressed thereon. The committee is, however, strongly of opinion that the Prime Minister should give local bodies an opportunity of expressing their opinions on any proposals for varying the existing statutory powers for raising local loanß before bringing down any measure on the lines referred to in the reported speech.
