ARBITRATION COURT.

PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS. (PBESS ASSOCIATION TIUEORAII.) Auckland, October 8. The Iv'ew Zealand Performing Musicians' Association's was before the Arbitration Court this morning. Mr S. E. Wright appeared for the employers and Mr Ecnn for the Union. At the outset Mr Wright said he was prepared to accept a Dominion aw,ard conditionally on there being provision to make minor variations to suit local conditions. Mr Renn said he was prepared to accept this so long 'as there was no interference on vital matters, such as wages or overtime. Mr Wright asked the Court to bear in mind the variety of work. Performers in most cases worked for more than one employer in each day, and that in mo3t cases it was not the only means of employment of the performer. Further, that any increase in wages or stringency in conditions would result in lcs3 employment for professionals unci more for amateurs. Mr Renn replied to these aspects. It was agreed that the ra3ius over which the award operates ehould bo eight miles from the post office for indoor work, and 15 miles for outdoor. A further hearing will take place at Dunedin before the award is given. Mr Justice Prazer stated that this would be in about a fortnight's time.
