SELWYN COUNTY COUNCIL.
At the last meeting of the Selwyn County Council there were present: Mr F. J. Andrew (chairman), and Crs. W. Gilmour, T. E. Pearson, G. Hall, W. Stone, T. D. Jarman. G. Hight, 11. H. Johnston, und N. J. Brown. Tho engineer reported that the slip on the Valley road had becu cleared, and Camping Gully ford had been put in order. The special order made on September 7th declaring the Whitecliffs bridge a main road bridge was confirmed. The Hospital Board wrote stating that plans would be prepared for a maternity hospital of four beds to be erected at Darfiold. to serve the counties of Selwyn, Malvern, and Tawera. \ The Main Highways Board forwarded copy of its estimates for construction and maintenance of highways, and also wrote regarding payment for metal dumped preparatory to spreading on main highways. Tho Chief Engineer, Public Works Department, forwarded copy of amended regulations as to the classification of roads for heavy traffic, and amending regulations ■as to the use of motor-lorries. Tho Department of Agriculture advised that £l4 15e, subsidy on kea heads, had been lodged to the credit of the Council's account. Mr H. A. Boyle wrote asking that Happy Jack's Creek be cleaned. The matter was referred to tho engineor. Tho chairman of the Hororata School Committee wrote asking if the Council would provide a pieco of land on which the school children could plant trees, the idea being'to foster the love of tree planting in the pupils attending primary schools. It was decided to offer a strip of land which, if suitable for the purpose, the Council would fence. It was decided to repair tho river fords as soon as possible. Accounts amounting to £530 5s were passed for payment.
