CANTERBURY ROWING ASSOCIATION. The twenty-fourth annual meeting of the Canterbury llowing Association states:— The past season may be considered a, satisfactory and eventful one. Some difficulty was experienced in getting off one or two regattas owing to the epidemic of infantile paralysis, and the Kaiapo'i fixture- had ultimately to he abandoned. Good entries, however; were received for ether regattas and the. exhibition of rowing and scul.ing was up to the usual standard. The BX'.L. Cup was won by the Union Club, the Avon Club being second. The active membership of clubs shows a considerable falling off. tho total being 468 as against 508 the preview) year. The points and amount won by each club during last-o-ason were.—Union Rowing Club, lib points. £107; Avon, 97 points, 4»l I Canterbury, 47 points, £34; Akaroa, 20 points, ±'18; Cure, 13 point*, £5; Lyt.te.hon, 4 points, nil; Sumner-IWcliffs, nil, nil.' The year commenced with a credit balance of £4 Us 4d, and closed- with a, credit of £5 14s lOd. ATe regret, 1c report that nothing tangible has beeu done. t6 deepen the river. AVay3 and means were considered by the powers that be, and it looked as if something was to be attempted this year, but we. wers again disappefoted. Tho absent© of a good course, has impeded the progress of rowing for many rears. The very heavy rains o£ the last few months had little effect, and there a.re a few mud banks which require removing before our season commences. The Otago Association is making application for the championship, and your executive has decided to support it, so wo may seo the championship on tho Duncdin Harbour next-season. If financial amngements can be made, it is likely that oversea vieits will be fairly frequent in tho future. ■ , •»
