A notice of motion, tabled by Mr J. Toll, was brought forward, in whicti it was proposed to form two circuits, with Raigiora, and "Woodend respectively as the centres. The motion was carried with only one dissentient. A unanimous invitation was given to the Revs. C. Blair and W." Cuming to remain in the circuit another year, and was accepted. Messrs B. J. Archer, 0. S. Ayers. and J. Tull were appointed representatives to' District frvnod. with Messrs .S. Ayres. M. H. Hamilton, and T. J. Burnet'as substitutes. Messrs AV. A. Rowse and P. J. Thorne were reappointed auditors. The Rangiora, ladies provided refreshnient-s. ROTHERHAM. On Friday night the Hockey Club held their final danco of the season. Members of all affiliated hockey clubs were invited and many attended. During the evening Mr and Mrs T. C. Robinson, donors of the "Mt. Palm" Shield, presented the shield to Cheviot, the winning team. The vice-captain, in the unavoidable absence of the captain, received the shield, and Mr Truman, on behalf of the Cheviot girls, replied. A presentation was also made to Miss Jean Thompson, secretary of. the Association, to whom much of the success of the season was due. Miss Danielson supplied the music for the dance, extras being played by Misses Gallagher and Thomson, and *Mr W. Dando. Mr J. Thomson was M,C. HAWARDEN. In the Hawardcn Hall, Mrs 11. T. % Little ran two very successful dances in aid of the local branch of the Plunket Society. The Hall was artistically decorated to represent a Chinese garden. The walls were draped witli multi-col-oured muslin Chinese umbrellas, scrolls, and blossoms, and suspended from the ceiling were baskets of flowers and Chinese lanterns. The stage was converted into a luxurious lounge. Supper was provided in the room adjoining, which was decorated in keeping with the Hall. Stalls to dispense ice CJeam, fruit salad, flowers, sweets, etc., were in the hands of able helpers dressed in Chinese costumes. The Hawardcn orchestra supplied excellent music, and Messrs Ericson and L. Wright were M.C.'s. Prizes presented by Mrs 11. Acton-Adams were won as follows:—Best fancy dress: Mrs Hutton (Chinese Lantern) 1, Miss Stewart (Maori), 2. Most original: Miss Jud--son (Picture Palace) .1, Miss K. Mowat (Danger Signal) 2. Best Chinese costume of stallholder: Miss E. Willis 1, Miss M. White 2. Best fancy dress for men: Mr Thomas (Cowboy) 1, Mr Lcs. Reese (Soldier) 2. Most original: Mr Stewart (Lady). The judging was carried nut by Mrs G. L. Rutherford and Mrs F. Cracroft Wilson. Winners of the competitions were:—Number of leaves in book: Mrs Stewart. Weight of cake: Mrs K. Campbell. Number and Flower: Mr Ericson. Number of peas in bottle: Miss Philpott. Numbiy of pins: Mr Claig. During the evening Mr (.'. 11. Willis, on behalf of Mrs Willis, "president of the Hawardcn brancli, thanked Mrs Little for organising what was one of the most successful dances ever held in the district.

A meeting of householders of the "Hawnrden,'Mason's Flat, Tho Peaks, ■Medbury, and Hurunui school districts was held in the Hawarden Hall on Monday evening to discuss tho site for a consolidated school. Mr J. A. Rollo was elected chairman. Messrs J. Heasley and y W. L. Wright, members of the executive committee, explained ■what had been done and the action taken by the Education Board. After several had spoken for and against—mostly for—the proposed site and the cost had been considered, it was carried imauimously on the motion of Messrs F. M. Power ami F. Pohl: "That we have full confidence in the executive committee for the manner in which they had carried out their duties." , At «a-meeting of tho Hawarden baleYards Compauv, Mr J. K. Forrester presided. Mr H. T. Littles reported on the conference held in Christchurcn to discuss ewe fair dates for next season and said he thought they woiuu secure the date they desired. The secretarv presented a plan of the proposed' subdivision ot the large pens and the estimated cost of the timber. It was decided that the work be done, and it was left in the hands of Mr H. T. Little to secure the posts. The bal-ance-sheet for the year ending August 31st was considered very satisfactory, showing a credit balance of £137 8s 3d. It" was decided to "pay a dividend of 1\ per cent, on all paid up cnpital leaving a credit balance of £B4 10s 9d to be dealt with at the annual meeting. MASON'S FEAT. To raise- funds to buy games, the children of the Mason's Flat School held a concert on Friday. The night was fine and a record crowd attended. The programme was thoroughly enjoyed by an appreciative audience. Th« net proceeds were £lO Us bd. Music for the dancing was supplied by Mrs Cowie. Miss Philpott, and Mr Francis Wright, while Mr Lance Wright was M.C. WAIPARA. During the rast week cold, showerv weather ias prevailed, followed frequently by mild frosts that have the effect of checking the growth of spring feed. The lambing season is nearly finished, and good percentages are recorded considering the exceptionally wet season. A meeting of the Glenmark Domain Board was held in the Waipara Hall. Present: Messrs Whyte (chairman), Cameron, King, Walker, and McGuekin. A deputation representing the recentlyformed Tennis Club waited on the Board and asked for permission to lay down a tennis court in the Domain." which was panted. The sum of £lO was given as a donation towards the cost of the court. On Monday evening Mr Forbes, member for Huruuui, addressed a wellattended meeting of electors in the Waipara School. Matters of interest to the settlers were discussed by the speaker. Mr J. Whyte presided. A vote of thanks was passed to Mr Forbes, who was congratulated on his election as Leader of the Opposition. rVAIKARI. The funeral of the late Dr. C. J. Campbell took place at the Waikari Cemetery on Tuesday. Dr. Campbell had been resident in the district for the past three years, and the esteem in which he was held was evidenced by the large number of people who attended to pay their last tribute of respect to his memory. The cortegewas the largest seen in the district for many years. Service was conducted in the Presbyterian Church by the Revs. Crockett, Jaeobsou and Bower Black, and at the grave by the Revs. Bower Black and Jacobson. In addition to the relatives those present included Dr. Miller, Messrs Archer, Tucker, H. Saundercock, N. D. Campbell, H. Sidey, K. Matson and Blundell (pall-bearers), Campbell, Doak, Allan, Fineham, and Lindsay (Waipara County Council), J. Heasley (Hurunul Rabbit Trustees), Mrs Blunden (Plunkct Society), members of the United football team, Messrs Archer and Blunden (Waikari Tennis Club), Magues (Wellington), and H. H. Holland (Hospital Board). A large number of beautiful wreaths was received. A memorial service will be held next Sunday in the Presbyterian Church, of which the late Dr. 'Campbell was a member and worker. SEFTON. The School Committee met on Monday evening, Mr P. J. Thorne presiding. The Education Board recommended the appointment of Miss Freda Wickcs to the teaching staff. The chairman reported that the net balance for the past month's euchre parties was £lO lis 2d. The chairman was authorised to withdraw from the Committee's account in the Post Office Savings Bank the sum of £.7 6s-, and a cheque for .£4O was passed for payment to the Education BoariMo accompany the application for subsidy on behalf of the proposed shelter shed. It was decided to call the Board's attention to the unsatisfactory character of the wash basins. AKAROA. At the last meeting of the Akaroa High School Board/the chairman, Mr J. D. Bruce, submitted a report on the recent visit of the Minister of Education. The High School Board was in danger of being abolished. Ho pointed out the necessity of doing their utmost as a board to foster secondare, education on "fine Peninsula. Several decisions were come to, the most important, a motion by Mr Geo. Armstrong, being that the Board ask for special legislation to enable it to use its funds for the purchase of a site and the erection of a secondary department hostel. In addition, it was agreed to assist the District High School Committee in its efforts to obtain' secondary pupils for next year from outside Akaroa, the Board undertaking to subsidise the Government boarding allowance of 5s per week. At-the last meeting of the committee of the Akaroa Boating Club MiEric Parris was elected secretary. Arrangements were made for the customary observance of the opening of the season on Labour Day.. The recommendation from the annual meeting that larger boats should be added to the pleasure plant, was held over for further consideration. A sub-commit-tee was appointed to consider the matter of forming a social and debating soeietv. HORORATA. A euchre party, organised by the School Committee, in aid of the school children's sports fund, was held hi the school. The prizes were awarded as follows: Ladies, Mrs R. Speirs 1, Mrs J. Keltic 2; gentlemen, Mr Archie Oliver 1, Mr R, Gray '-'. ' • Mrs J. Manning and children, of Methven, are the guests of her sister, Mr* J. S. McHugh. At the-Tennis Club's weekly euchre tournament in the hall on Saturday the following were the prize-winners: Ladies, Mrs G. C. Dent 1, Mrs R. Gray 2; gentlemen, Mr W. Page I, Mr Wallace Oliver 2. The consolation prizes fell'to Mrs Carter and Mr W. O'Brien
