WELLINGTON, September 16. Henry Tait, superintendent of the Five Brigade, was summoned by Theodore de May, a member of tho brigade, for asasulting him. The latter was to have been a witness in a divorce suit, though he was not called. N According to the evidence Tait sent for him and accused him of making certain remarks aibout the woman. Plaintiff said he had Uecn suppcenaed and must tell tho truth, whereupon, according to him, Tait struck him several blows and he was incapacitated for two days. ' Defendant's account was that he sent for do May to ascertain what attitude ho waisJ- going to take. As a result oi what plaintiff said he told him he was disappointed and thought his action contemptible. De May tried to hit him, and thev closed. The Bench said defendant: must be convicted. It was regrettable that a. man in his position should so far forget himself. Defendant was fined £o and costs, including medical expenses.
