Nominations for tho Geraldinc Racing Club's Spring Meeting close to-day at 8 p.m. There, arc two trotting events on each day's programme. Consequent upon the heavy rainfall on Friday night no grass tracks were opened at Riccarton on Saturday morning, and work was confined to from slow to strong pacing on the sand. The following re-handicaps hare been declared for the Avondalc races—Cup, The Banker 41b, 8 6; Swanson Hack Handicap, Te Monanui 41b, 10 3. Tho following re-handicaps have been declared: —Dannevirko Meeting: President's Handicap. Nancy Lee 8 10. Dannovirke Hunt "Club: Rakaiatai Handicap, Nancy Lee 8 4. Otakt Meeting: Pahiko Hack, First Acre 8: 8; Waitawa Handicap, Rose of Athens 8 5. J. B. Pearson's jumpers were given some schooling over hurdles. His. Majesty (F. Lloyd) went over three hurdles alone and jumped cleverly, though tho slippery going a*, tne last caused him some trouble. His stable- • mates lasogno (F. Lloyd) and Ethiopian'; (A. J. Peart) went twice round jumping six hurdles. They fenced ' cleanly and finished up together. The Paladin —Maaabuka filly in, G. Mnrray-Aynsky's stable will Zarisee.

Royal Despatch was allowed to drop out of his Ashburton hurdle engagement, having displayed slight lameness after schooling last week. The starting barrier will be available at foiccartrm this-morning, and several trainers will have two-year-olds put through their preliminary k-ssons at it.

Te has been ta.ken tip again. The Maniapoto gelding has brightened up. during his short spell, but may not be asked to race again until November. The Walkato Hunt Club has received a telegram from tho Minister of Internal Affairs to the effect that in view of the naturo of the report of tho Inspection Committee, he is unahle to grant the clnb permission to hold a race meeting at Claudelands as the course is considered unsafe. The meeting appointed a committee to approach the. Wnikato. Racing Club with a view to racing at To Kapa. -

V. Davis stated.at Wanganui that tho two King John two-year-olds he has in work at Woodvillo for Mr T. H. Lowry are unusually; '■'■vyell developed youngsters (says the "Evening Post"). In point of fact, he Raid that Lackland, tho eolt from Landrail, the dam of was as. big' as . many three-year-olds. He did not bring them to the Wanganui Meeting. He expressed himself well pleased with the way that Nigger Minstrel had gone on, and said that the injured leg was standing in a very satisfactory manner. Ho made no secret of the fact that he thought the clan of the Finland eolt might stand to him in the Flying Handicap pn Thursdaj», which it did, but only for half a Mile. \

The InvercargiH sportsman, Mr W. T. Hazlett, was present at Wanganui last week to see Father o*Flynn win tho "Wanganui Guineas and Gold Light dead heat with Nigger Minstrel in the Eclipse Stakes. Both were bred by "their owner, and it is said that Bsacon Light, a three-year-old half brother to j Gold Light, also bred and owned by Mr Hazlett, is superior to Father G'Flynn, but is proving difficult to train. Beacon Light was taken to "Wanganui with the others, but was not started owing to some indisposition asserting itself on the' eve of the meeting.

Star Stranger has grown into an ideal thrco-year-old for classic races. . It will be surprising if he rather than Mimetic is not the hope of J. H. Jefferd's stable in tho Derbies (says an exchange). He is a typical ''.'■ Martian, and in very many respoets rc--minds one of Bapinc, but whether ho will develop into a galloper of such class remains to be seen. There was a • good deal of merit in his second at Wanganni on Thursday, for on that small and turning courso, a horse would have to be" a champion to concede a big start in a big field. It is an axiom-of a very prominent New Zealand trainer that while tho very best horses can give away lumps of weight, they cannot afford" to allow their opponents to get too far away from them during the running of a race. It is understood that a North Island sportsman has been making overtures for the purchase of the two-year-old filly Good as Gold, by Paper Money— Killala, now in F. "W. Ellis's stable at. InvercargUL She is owned by Mr W. Baird, who has no intention at present of parting with her. Penury Bose, though still showing - the' effects of a strenuous winter campaign, has rejoined J. A. Rowland's active team at InvercargUL The Penury gelding is not likely to be hurried, and should be seen at his best again in a month or two. The southern owner Mr E. Bussell ' lias unfortunately lost the first foal of his good-looking mare Laughing Eyes, by Balboa—Eager Eyes (imp. and dam of Listening Post), more especially as yit was a eolt foal by Solferino, the first of this sex for eight years at the Bay View Stud since the birth of a brother in Listening, Post Excellent nominations have been received by the Wellington Trotting Club for its Spring Meeting. Amongst the horses engaged are Don Wild, Countryjinau, Boicole, Fight Ever, Talaro, '- '^%^^ Nelson Derby, Dreamalion, 'J „• feJi«ftfodd, Queen's Own, Koyal TJhanee, xafaural. Tt is understood that tho EHerslie trainer, J. Williamson, will leavo lor Sydney with, a team of horses this week.

Juldi's win in tho Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster on Friday, v.ith tiaucy Sue in third place, will be some recompense to H. H. Aga Khan for his exasperating luck in big races this season. He also owns Zionist ('second in Jn© Derbv), Ferouz Mahal (third in. the Or.e Thousand Guineas), and Zambo (second in the St. Lcger). After tho Marangai Handicap at Wanganui on Thursday, an enquiry was held into ..ome interference which took place, and the apprentice, M. Gray, the rider of Yoma, was suspended .lor a month.

Tho running of. King the Bell in tho. Dunn Hark Handicap was challenged at Wanganui on Thursday. The connexions of tho horse were told that its running was unsatisfactory. ' lU t evidence did not justify action being taken.

The Australian-bred King's Speech, who was a successful two-year-old in fhe North Island last season, showed all his pace for a few furlongs in his outing at Wangauui last week, and he is now bein*r mentioned as an early winner on the Northern circuit.

rnifierip.l iSpark was one of the unlucky horses racing at "Wanganui on Thur.sday., 1?..-.7. Mackie, hi.s rider, having his foot injured by lieing pinched on the rails. Nothing had been galloping better on the trrck, and hi.s third in the Hiiggie Handicap on Saturday mav bo improved upon at an early date. Man clan <> was not suited by the small coui-se at Wanganui, but sho raced well. Tho Penmiito filly stays well, and later 'in the season she may be making history amongst horses of her own age.

The race is over the trying St. Leger course, and the penalty carried by Saucy Sue and - a possible further allowance to Jaldi, who, up to the receipt of the last exchanges, was still a maiden, would be sufficient to beat tho Swjrnford filly if she was not right up to her real form. Seradella won a small race in three starts as a two-year-old, and a minor race this season over a soven furlong course. Beradella may now have found her; true sphero—staying—but none of her previous efforts so far as book records go, would have given her a hope of defeating the crack under equal conditions.

Hotes on the Racing. (SPECIE Ij to "ths pbbss.") WANGANUI, September 12. All started in tho Debutante Stakes, for two-year-olds, and punters literally fell over themselves to get in on Subdivision, who Went out at odds-on. There was little monoy separating Flying Juliet and Kilmoylcr, with the bracketed pair Note and Spode next in favour. At the start, Alyson lost several lengths, and Kilperon dwelt. Glen Innis began vorv quickly, and led out from Kilmoyler, Subdivision, Flying Juliet, and Spode, and as they filed across the top Kilperon was noticed making up his leeway. Subdivision and Glen Innis were on teVos as the field camo round the bend into the straight, Kilmqyler being handy, and Kilperon and Spode next. Once into the straight, Kilperon came with a good run on the outside, and at the half-distanco Subdivision, Kilmoyler, and Kilperon were on . even terms. Tho favourite weakened first,' and Kilperon, finishing stronger than Kilmoyler, beat him by a neck, with Subdivision half a length away. Glen Innis, bracketed with the winner, was a good fourth, and then in order came Spode, Noto, Plying Juliot, and Alyson, with Hymill last. The winner paid a nice double figure dividend. '

The first day's winner, Otauru Kid, carried the confidence of in the Gonville Hurdles, with Prince Eufus and Santiago evenly fancied. Then there was a big drop in investments to Omahu and Askari. Over the early stages Zircon and Askari carried the field along from Otauru Kid, Omahu, Prince Rufus, Lady Comet, and Santiago. Along the back the favourite ran up to Askari in the lead, and then Omahu and Santiago improved their positions. Otauru Kid led Omahu, Santiago, Askari, Prino.o Rufus, and Lady Comot into the straight, but once over the last fence Santiago challenged Otauru Kid. He failed to get there, and tho favourite won by a head from the Wanganui horse. Prince Rufus, who was a long way back in the middle stages, was a couple of lengths away, with Omahu fourth, and Lady Comet, Zircon, and Askari next.

The Spring Hack Handicap was run in two- divisions, eleven runners in the first and! nine iu the second. In making Shut Eye and Gold Box favourites tho public were right on the spot, for each won and divided the investments. In the first division Caliwai, Pardon, Bonny Dawn, and Wembley were left. Gold Box began quickest from Rangimoana, Merle, Lady Watcrlow, and Willow Wai. This was the. order after going a farlong, and Gold Box showed tho -way into tho straight from Bonny Dawu, Merle, 'Willow Wai, and Lucrative, and in a slashing finish Gold Box just got the decision by a head from Willow AVai, with Merle a length away third. Then came Lucernal, Bonny Dawn, Lady Waterlow, Wembley, and Rangimoana.

In the second division Tanewai was left, the order out from the barrier being Lin Arlington, Empire Camp, Sovena, Minotus, Shut Eye, Lucrative, and Adavale. Crossing the top, Empire Camp went to the front and showed the way into the straight from Lin Arlington, Sovena, Minotus, Shut Eye, and Lucrative. At the half-distance Shut Eye and Sovena were clear, the former winning by a neck, with Minotus finishing strongly three-quarters of a length away. Khipire Camp was fourth, followed by Lin Arlington, Adaval«r Lucrative, and Elysianor. The Eclipse Stakes was a great race. All seven acceptors started, and there was never any doubt as to what would be favourite, Gold Light occupying that honour throughout betting operations. Tho Hymettus mare finished up carrying nearly twice as much .is Reremoana and Inferno, who were evenly supported, with mild backing for Royal Divorce. They left the barrier in a perfect line, and in the early run for positions going out of the straight Nigger Minstrel, from number two, was soon in front from Roremoana, Inferno, Motley, Rapine, Gold Light, and Royal Divorce. At tho bend Inferno went up and showed the\way into the back stretch to Royal Divorce, Gold Light, Nigger Minstrel, and Motley. At the five-furlong f>oat Gold Light moved forward, and was with nferno passing the half-mile, with Nigger Minstrel next, and Reremoana, Royal Divorce, and Rapine following. Crossing the top. Inferno began to feel the pinch, and he was first to give way, while Roval Divorce also appeared to be beaten. Gold Light led into the straight 'from Reremoana and Nigger Minstrel, who were abreast, Inferno, Royal Divorce, and Rapine, with Motley tailing off. Gold Light still maintained her lead inside the distance, where Nigger Minstrel began to close the gap. A hundred yards from the post Nigger Minstrel and Gold Light were running neck-and-neck, and with the winning post only a chain away the former got his head in front, but Gold Light came at him fcamely, and in a great finish a dead-heat was declared. Reremoana was placed third a length and a half away, but Rapine was in that position a length in front of Beremoana, wen came Royal Divorce and Inferno, with Motley several lengths back. It was a brilliant field and a wonderful race. The sectional times were:—First quarter 295, three furlongs 425, half-mile 54 2-sth s, six furlongs lm 20 l-ss, mile lm 46 4-os. Indian Sage was a very warm favourite for the Railway Hack Handicap, Biaox being we only other seriously considered. Tangi- **\. T* 9 ..'" 4 »ome lengths and Indian Sage, anticipating the release, was in the van at once from The Thorn, Bieox, Ring Poto*. ***.<**** Lupin, but at the «!rISL had run to the front. At the home turn the Biaogne filry and Grand &v?"*t''? tenns iasi m fr ont of Circle, and Empire Camp. Once in the Witt the Utter a neck in front of Grand Jswnv JndAn Miss. Bin^

Potoa, Tangikai, and Dress Circle were the next to cross the line. Spoony was the elect of backers in the Higgie Handicap, with Imperial Spark and Aiaric, Avola, and Barrier next, in that order. At the rise of the barrier Aiaric was cut out. Avola, Tresham, and Barrier were together coming into the straight, but passing the post the first time Avola and Tresham -were bowling along in front of Imperial Spark, Spoonv, Shining Armour, Kilceit. and Aiaric, in that order. At the five-furlong post Avola had charge from Barrier, Spoony, Kilceit, Imperial Spark, and Aiaric, the lastnamed running up into fourth place at the half-mile. Crossing the top. Shining Armour made his effort, and was just behind Avola at the home turn, with Imperial Spark, Bar : rier, Aiaric, and Sunshot next in order. Once into the straight Avola stopped quickly, leaving Shining Armour in the lead, but then Watts brought Aiaric along and, finishing in great style, the AVangsnui horse got up to heat Shining Armour by a neck. Imperial Spark was a length and a half away, and then came Kilceit, Sunshot, Tresham, and Spoony. Bon Homme came in for big support in the Moutoa Hack Handicap, but there was also some money for Star Ranger and T« Monanui, with Revel at the head 'of the other quotations. When the field was sent away Revel stumbled and lost ground. De Luxe, Troilus, Te Monanni, and Puswhato were in line going out of the straight, but Troilus had taken charge entering the hack stretch from Do Luxe, Te Monanui, Star Ranger, Cooinda, and Dubious, with Bon Homme making a forward move. At the half-mile Star Ranger had joined Troilus in the lead, the foriaer leading into the straight from Troilus, De Luxe. Te Monanui, Dubious, Bon Homme, and Vaward. At the half-distance Te Monanui went after Star Ranger and wore him down, to win by a neck, De Luxe being in the minor placing a good half-length away. Dubious was fourth, and Fire Brigade, Troilus, Vaward, and Ban Homme next. There were no defections from the Owen Handicap, a nice field of a dozen parading. Fool's Paradise was backed as. if unbeatable. Nancy Lee, second fancy, carried only half as much as the favourite, anl £4O more than Deluge. Dan Quin, Lucious, and Rose of Athens also came in for fair support. When they were let go, Fool's Paradise, Nancy Lee, Knphonium, Deluge, and Pouma raced in line for a furlong, but at the half-mile Pouma was just in front of Oration, Nancy Lee, Fool's Paradise, and Deluge. The favourite drifted back crossing the top, and the order into the straight was Pouma, Rose of Athens, Oration, Nancy Lee, and Rehutai. At the half-distance Rose of Athens and Nancy Lee were together, an interesting finish seeing the former prevail by half a length. Lucius finished fast in the middle of the coarse, and was a neck behind the consistent Nancy Lee, with Fool's Paradise fourth. Some Red flfth,\ and Deluge, Euphonium, Oration, and Poujna following.

TIMARU TROTTING CLUB.

SPRING FIXTURE POSTPONED. The Spring Meeting of the Timaru Trotting Club, -which was to have been held on Saturday, had to be postponed indefinitely. Heavy rain fell during Friday night, and continued until Saturday morning, making the course heavy, while portions of the grounds were under water. The horse train which left at 5.50 a.m. travelled as far as Rakaia, when word of the postponement was received, and it. returned to Christchurch. A large crowd assembled at the local station, but the nevrs that the racing was off was known shortly after 7.-'lO a.m.. and patrons had no option but to return to their homes. So far no definite date has been fixed for the Meeting but it will probably be on September 26th.
