SHIPPING NOTES.

The Canopus is due this- morning from Westport with a part cargo of coal. She is expected to leave Lyttelton this evening with the balance for Wellington. The John arrived from Wellington on Saturday night with cattlo. Sho will load to-day for Wellington and Wanganui in place of the Holmdale, which has been delayed. The Gale was due late last night with a load of bunker coal for the bulk Raupo. On completion of discharge she will bo plaeed in the dry dock for her half-yearly overhaul. She is expected to Eail about Thursdav for Dunedin and Timaru. The Storm arrived yesterday from Wellington, and should sail this afternoon, for Bluff, Dunedin, and Timaru. The Breeze should arrive to-morrow from Wanganui, via Wellington, to load for Dunedin . . The Waitomo discharged a quantity of -Melbourne cargo at Lyttelton on Saturday, and left in the afternoon for Wellington and Auckland. , The KaTetu left Lyttelton on Saturday for Oamaru with the balance of her wheat cargo. The A. and A. Lino Agency has received advice that the Trefusis Bailed from NewYork on Monday with cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. She is due at Auckland on October 14th, and at Wellington about a week later. Tho Opihi should arrive on Thursday from the south to load for Wellington, New Plymouth, and Nelson. Cable advice has been received by the Shaw, Savill Company that tho Matatua left Montevideo on Wednesday, en routo from Wellington to London. The vessel sailed from Wellington on August 19th. With passengers, mails, and cargo from Vancouver, via ports, the Union Company's R.M.S. Niagara is duo at Auckland to-day. The vessel leaves Auckland at noon tomorrow for Sydney. To continue discharge of her cargo of Australian hardwoods tho steamer Erviken is due at Wellington to-day from Auckland. From Wellington the vessel proceeds to Lyttelton and Dunedin. With cargo from tho East, the Sussex, which is running under tho auspices of the Union Company, arrived at. Auckland on Saturday morning. After part discharge at Auckland tho vessel will proceed to Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru, Dunedin, and Bluff, to complete unloading. She is expected at Lyttelton about Thursday. Tho Oamaru Harbour Board has notified tho Marine Department that dredger No. 350 is operating at the entrance to Oamaru harbour. Between sunset and sunrise during fine weather the dredger may remain at her jnoorings, which are eastward of the leading beacons in transit.
