The Earl of Oxford and Aaqoith; K.G., is 73 years old to-day. Mr H. Linley Bichardfeon. E.8.A., will arrive from Wellington to-day. Out of 122 applicants; Mr H. V. Caverhill, of SHverstreattt, Wellington, has been appointed secretary 'of the Rongotea Co-op. Dairy Company. The Blenheim Borough Council have appointed Mr John Annabell, of Wanganui, to the position of borough engineer from eight applicants. Mr Farquhar Young has returned to Christchurch from the West Coast, whore lie was one of the adjudicators at the West Coast Competitions.

Guests at the Clarendon Hotel include Messrs J. MbGrath (Dunedin), J\ E. Histed (Auckland) and Dr. E. Tiedheimairn (Hokitika). Mr and Mrs G. Cross (Dunedin) and Mr and Mrs Brown and Miss Brown (Mt. Torlesse) are at the Clarendon Hotel.

Among the guests at the United Service Hotel are Messrs K. 0. Thomson, H. E. Taylor and C. J. Lenihan (Wellington). Professor Sir E. Rutherford, the world's greatest authority on radium, who has arrived with Lady Rutherford at Adelaide, will be in Wellington on October 26th and 27th, and the Victoria University College' authorities have arranged for him to deliver a lecture in the Town Hall.

Mr R. D. Kelly, Chief. Inspector of the Post and Telegraph Department, will retire on at the end of the current month, having completed over 42 years of service with the Department. He was for some years Chief Postmaster at Christchurch. —Press Association.

At the triennial election of Fellows of the Christ's Coljege Board, the retiring Follows, Messrs John Studholme (elected by the .Standing Committee of the Diocese), T. F. Gibson and G. T. Weston (elected by the Old Boys' Association), G. ,D. Pascoe, J. C. N. Gngg and Professor Blunt (elected by the Governing Body) were re-elected. Mr William C. Barry, who has been attached to the Auakland office of the Agricultural Department as Government Veterinary for the past five years, has been promoted to the position of District Superintendent of the Department. Mr Barry is a well-known and popular officer in the Auckland anu Christchurch district*.
