PUBLIC TRUST OFFICE.
A correspondent writing in the Wellington "Dominion" quotes from a leading article in "The Press," of October 24th last and adds: —
"Now, Sir, when a paper of the standing of the Christchurcb. 'Press/ a paper understood to be a supporter of the then and present Government, makes such scathing remarks and comments, it would have been expected that some refutation or explanation would have appeared, but not a word ha 3 appeared save and except an ex parte statement upon the working of the Common Fund prepared by the Public Trust Office and made by the lato Prime Minister, and which a few davs later was effectively replied .to and dealt with in a letter appearing in vour columns. . «\w that Parliament is sitting, surely some notice and action will b3 taken by the appointment of. a commission or otherwise to enqu.re, into and report upon the accuracy or otherw"se of the charges and allegat.ons made in order to allay the perturbed rnTnds of those .interested ,n tates alreadv in the Public J rustOffice and of those whose estates may conclusion, may I suggest that in turn- Pari anient obtain a everv member of 1 arn3 '~, '. ; n th« „c +W leadine article in tne and consider it himself.
