BOWLING.

'SOUTHBRIDGE CLUB. The annual meeting of the Southbridge Bowling Club waß presided over by Mr A. Tong. • i ' The secretary presented a' report which stated that the club had had a quiet year. The competitions had been keen up to a certain point, but had not been completed, with the exception-of the Champion Singles, which had been won by W. Maekrell. It was recommended that rules should be made to govern tin competitions to ensure their being completed by the end of the season. The financial statement showed that the club had commenced the year with a credit of 12s and ended with a credit of £3 0s 4d, but there was a debt of nearly £2O to be met. There were a few members whose subscriptions were still unpaid. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. It was decided to make an effort to collect the outstanding subscriptions, and to canvass, for new members. The following officers were elected:— Patron, the Hon. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, M.P:; president, Mr R. J. Parkin; vice-president, Mr .T. S. McClelland; delegate to Centre, Mr C. Piper: delegates to Ellesmere Association, Messrs R. J. Parkin, J. S. McClelland, and A Tong: general committee, Messrs R. Hannah. W. H. Maekrell, T. H. Bennett, J. Griffin, V.'. J. Woods, D. Hayes. E, J. S. I,ochhead: ground committee, members of general committee, with addition of Mr A. Tong; secretary, Mr R. J. Parkin; selection committee. Messrs J. Hannah, W. H. Maekrell, and T. H. Bennett. The appointment of a caretaker was held over, it being suggested that members should take weekly turns in keeping the green in order. It was decided to make an. inspection of the green to decide what steps should be taken to prepare it for the first match. Mr W. Maekrell said that there was a desire among a good many ladies, to take up the game of croquet, and tbey had appealed to the bowlers to help them to secure a lawn. I& and Mr T. H. Bennett had inspected: a section near the bowling green, which they thought would be suitable. An offer for purchase had been made to the owner, who was considering it. If the negotiations were successful, the section could be made ready for play in about two months. The ladies had agreed to-raise the purchase cost by a bazaar or other means if bowlers would find the ready, cash at tHe time of purchase. Messrs Maekrell and Bennett were authorised to secure the section at a cost of £BO if that sum would be acceptable, in which event a meeting to further the scheme was arranged for next week. Thank* were expressed to the ladies who had provided afternoon tea last season. A decision on the date of opening was held over until a meeting 0 f the Association had been held.
