RUGBY. CANTERBURY V. SOUTH CANTERBURY. Excitement will run high at Lancaster Park this afternoon, when South Canterbury will meet Canterbury on the oval. Both have first-class teams, with good backs, capable of opening up the game aud making it fast and spectacular. Ttte Canterbury team have acquired quite a reputation this year in games on the home ground, and it will be interesting to see whether they can keep up their unbeaten record. South have not played many big games this year, but it is expected that they will give Canterbury a very busy time before the game ends. In order to secure good seats patrons are advised to come early. A curtain-raiser on the oval before the big game will help to maintain the interest of early comers. / LINWOOD CLUB. LEAGUE. AUCKLAND V. r CANTERBURY. The chief' attraction for Rugby League supporters to-day is the fourth interprovinrial match between the Auckland and Canterbury representatives, and should the ■weather break fine this morning, and the ground prove in order, a great game should result. The teams are the best provincial combinations in the Dominion, and the
match is of a North v. South test. Prior to their departure for the south the'Aucklanders received some lessons in* tactics from Mr E. Mair,, who has been successful in coaching the New Zealanders to the standard that enabled them to beat the crack Queensland team last Saturday. The Auckland backs will have to be at their best this afternoon to keep the ball away from the slashing forward team that will strip for Canterbury, and with a pack of the calibre of F. Henry, E.
