Itt' the House of Representatives, a motion that a Royal \ Commission should be appointed to visit Island to enquire into the island and its inhabitants in relation to Commonwealth control, was carried by 30 to 29. The vote went against the Government. The Assistant-Minister of External Affairs Mr C. W. C. Marr, said that everything possible had been done lor the island. The Commonwealth paid £3600 yearly for officers there, and oollected nothing in return. There was an advisory council in connexion with the administration of the island. The Ministry had decided that the council's powers should be enlarged to enable it to submit proposals for now. ordinances and for amendment, to existing ones.
