The recent unveiling of the restored "Five Sisters" lancet windows in York Minster bv the Duchess of York recalls the fact- that in the ancient northern capital is more mediaeval painted glass than in any other town in Britain, ana as much as in any town in the world. The cathedral has more glass of that) kind than any other British Cathedral, and nearlv as' much as may be found in any church abroad. The "Five Sisters" are the tallest and slenderest group of unmutilated contemporary lancet windows extant. The east window, possibly the largest anywhert —certainly th" largest of it", kind anywhere—7/ft by 32ft,, contains all its original glass, 200 compartments, each a yard square.
