SIR JAMBS CARROLL MAY STAND. IN FAVOUR OF FUSION . (rRBSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) GISBORNE, August 16. A large deputation representative of all classes of tlio community, and also of sports bodies, -waited on Sir James Carroll on Saturday evening and asked him to contest tho Gisborno seat. The chief speaker, Mr J. Harkness, in urging the request, that in tho opinion of tho deputation there was little difference between Reformers and Liberals. Sir Jajnes Carroll, in his reply, said he had been approached similarly from other quarters, but ho would defer consideration until he was sure about his health. Personally, he favoured fusion, and if ho had been in Wellington at the time of the negotiations, ho would have used his best endeavours to bridge the gap between the Parties. RICCARTON SEAT. MR WINTER COLE, LABOUR NOMINEE. It was announced at Saturday night's meeting of the Labour Representation Committee that as the result of a postal ballot taken last week of members of the Labour Party in tho Riccarton electorate, Mr Winter Colo had been selected as the Labour candidate for tho scat. The number of votes recorded for each of tho four candidates was not madt- available to 'The Press," but it was stated that the order was:—Mr Winter Cole, Mrs E. R. McCombs, Mr G. T. Owen, and Mr C. Renn. The selected Labour candidate, Mr Winter Cole, is chairman of the Paparua branch of the Labour Party, and is employed as a turner in the Addington railway workshops. He is a member of tho Amalgamated Engineering Mr'j. A. McCullough, who contested the seat in the Labour interests in 1922, decided not to offer his services at the approaching General Election,
