CHURCH AND BOWLING CLUB BENEFIT. (rRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) GISBORNE, August 13. Three handsome gifts have been made in Gisborne during tho past two days. At the farewell presentation by Catholics and non-Catholics to the Very Rev. Deau Lane, who has been transferred to Ellerslie, Dean Lane announced that when the foundation stone of tho new i<t. Mary's (Catholic) Church is laid in Gisborne, he would place a cheque for £IOOO on the stone. It is now announced that the estate of tho late C. J. Parker has made a donation of £ISOO towards the erection of the altar in the new building. Last evening Lady Carroll announced ber intention of giving £-500 towards tho fund for a new pavilion for the Kahutia Bowling Club. Sir James and Ladv Carroll have already given to the club laud and appurtenances running into , many thousands of pounds, their latest gift being a handsome Maori carved arch. The committee have decided to plant a pohutukawa tree in Lady Carroll's honour.
