QUESTIONS IN HOUSE.
MINISTERS' REPLIES. (SI'ECUL TO "THE PBESS.") WELLINGTON, July 22. Ministers to whom questions had been addressed during last week in the House of Representatives gave the following replies to-day:— Tho electoral lav/ provides for prosecution if there is wilful default to apply for registration. These persons who have so far not- registered may rest assured that if they can givo any reasonable excuse for such failure, their application, if in order, wilj be accepted. It is proposed to gazette regulations (under the provisions of the Health Act) regarding the nso of whit© load in paint. It is not proposed to prohibit night work in bakeries. It is proposed to introduce a Bill taking into account tho recommendations of the Committee on Mental Defectives. Permanent heads of the Health and Meatal Hospitals Departments, and Sir Donald McGavih, a member of the committee, who is now in England, have been asked to enquire specially into this problem with a view to ensuring legislation which will be in a form hkelv to prove practically workable and effective. The High Commissioner is in direct touch with M. Spahlinger, and reports of all fresh information are received by him in connexion with Spahlinger' s treatment.
