CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.

The fortnightly social evening of the; Can-; terbury Caledonian Society was held on Monday night in the Caledonian Hall, and -was attended by somo v 400 to 500 members and friends. The president, Mr C. S. Thomas, occupied the chair, and the programme for the evening was arranged by Mr R. H. Rankin, vice-president, and Mr A. Staunton, director of the Society. The. president referred to the loss to the Society through the death of the late Mr John Sinclair, Mrs Anne Bishell, and Mr J. W. Petrio, and moved a motion of condolonce with the relatives, and Pipe Major Shanahan played a lament. During the evening soven new members were elected. The following contributed items:— Pipe selections by the Society's Pipe Band; songs by Mr Richards, Miss Harris, Miss Wright Mr Ijaw, Mrs Staples, Mrs Thompson, Mr Harrowny, and Mr B. Wilson. Musical monologue, Miss D. Wicks; character sketch, Miss Jean Murchic; pipe selection, Mr A. White; recitations, Miss Lucy Cowan; Sailor's Hornpipe, Miss L. McCall; sword dance, Miss Ij. McCall; Highland Fling, Miss Betty Craig; Seann Triubhais, Miss Jean Staunton; Highland Reel, Misses M. Sey, M. Irvine, Joan Craig, and J. Staunton. The accompanist for the oveninc was Mrs E. A. Smith.
