AUCTIONS. H. MATSON AND CO. MATSON AND CO.'S ADDINGTON STORE SHEEP. The cuiiy ir. this department vas 000 fhort of the previous sale wherein there v.-as 4090. A verr largo audience attended the sale in this'department and in our opinion pricco again took a rifle, although tho rise was not general for hoggets, tl»> being an irregular one, and undoubtedly in somo pens some remarkable sales were, made. Wethers for th--> few that were yarded met with a solid demand and the price of 37s 7d for a line realised, the previous '.reek formed the basis of values for to-day's sales and forward sheep were all round .-•.'■. out 37s up as high as 38a. There wre one or two lines of breeding ewes forward, showing heavy in lamb, and the prices they realised -were certainly in advance of p:tvioiia sales. In fact bids for any ewes at a! wero sent in from all corners of ea<h pen. The whole Bale throughout waa spirit- • rl and anyone who is yhort of feed desirous <.i soiling cannot go wrong by unloading ;-t this centre. We quote tho foilowms prices: Aj»ed eweg in lamb from 34s to 30s; on* good lino up to 35s 6d. .Sound-mouth ewes, 39s lOd to £2; one •verr /■no line of early shorn, big-framed tfcrceewes made 48s fc'd. Ewe hoggets from 30s to 33s 6d; one extra special lino to 35s 6d. Wethers hogget* from 31a to 38s; a line -.p to 30s 30d. Jfix«t ses hoggets made an average for the 1,-ft 26s and (smaller 23s 6d. Two pens of wethers made 345, and two in as of more forward wethers made from 37a 6d to 38s. There were consignments yarded to-day or r/X) Piouiney cwos from the North Island and t 201) ewes from the West Coast. These ed eigns of travel, and at the present ncture, buyers are very keen for local FOR BESTMIESLLTS. CONSIGN YOUK I .STOCK TO H. MATSON and CO., AD- j EiNGTON. FAT SHEEP. ! I There was a larger yarding than ltei, week ' and a, bigger proportion of wet&ers than usual. Generally speaking, the quality ws« '.cry irregular, but there were several outstanding lines of both wethers and ewes. Tho market opened very firmly at last week's | rates and continued so throughout. As a ( matter of fact as the sale progressed prices seemed to harden until about the last race, v/hen competition was restricted to a comparatively fen? butchers, the majority evidently h.iving fLUod their requirements earlier in the gale. Despite the. fact that we heard several experts -who follow tho market stating that tho sale was not nearly so good as last week, in ©or opinion wo think tho sale was every bit as good on the average. Perhaps the very extreme prices that were ruling at the beginning of last Wednesday's Palo were not forthcoming to-day, but on Country butchers and West Coast orders j helped very materially to l.eep the market ; 'firm. Some of cur best sales are ae fol- j lows:— . On acooxmt of W. Abbott (Southbridgi'), j wethers to 41s 6d, ewes to 10s 3d: D. Mar- : shall (Springston), ewes to 40s; South Canterbury client, swss 41s 7d, 41s 3d; 'J. and P. Clinton (Darfield), wethers to 52s 7d; J. O'CarroU (Woodgrove), ewes to 46s 7d; T. W. McKay (Balmoral), wethers to 47s lOd. FOR BEST RESULTS, CONSIGN YOCK STOCK TO H. MATSON and CO., ADDINGTON. FAT CATTLE. j The total entry to-day comprised 445 head of cattle, of which our share was 110. The ! quality yarded was excellent and prices j wero highly satisfactory to vendors. In our ! opinion, the steer market was .about the j samo as last week, bat cows and heifers were in the minority and wens much sought after. There are a large number of the small j butchers -who do not, buy steers, consequent- j ly the market for these rose easily 30s per ! head with a hardening tendency as tho sale I progressed. Wo sold consignments of cattle ' om behalf of the following woll-known graziana:—Loudon Estate, Teddington, Montrose Estate, Culverden, T. W. McKay, Sandford Downs, Balmoral, Goodwin Bros., Pigeon Bay. Prices were ae follows: — Extra heavy steers, from £l7 to £2O 2» 64. Prima, £l* 10s to £l6 10s. I -Medium, £l2 10s to £l3 15e. Matson andi Co.'s entry was 50 head, and wo must say that the quality was very mixed, and in cases where outstanding sorts or outstanding quality was offered, excellent prices were forthcoming. Tho market opened briskly and continued about the same tone throughout. Wo quote as feJtows:— Runners from £5 to £<. Extra special to £B. Good calves from £3 to £5. Medimm from £3 to £3. Heavy from 65s to 78s. Average prico 9d> to lOd per lb. Light baconers from £4 10s to £5 ss. Heavy from £S 10s to £5 15s. Extra heavy to £6 lis. Average price 7Jd to Bid per lb. Sales wore harder to make than has been the caso lately, but we consider ths prices were quite good for the quality represented. Wc quote the following prices:— Best second, third, and fourth ealwers, from £8 to £U 30s. Medium from £5 to £9 10s. Best heifers from £G to £9 30s. Medium from £3 to £5 10s. Thero was only a small yarding in this dopartuiont, only three pens of steers beirjfr yarded, and tho balance being' old cows, with the exception of a good pen of Hereford cows in calf and a. pen of Hereford heifers. Tho potting prices were as usual, but keen competition was forthcoming for tho steers. Wo sold a pen of 8 three and four-year-old steers at £7, and this was considered excellent value. Tho other steers mentioned above were Hereforde, and realised £5 5s . only, being 24-year-old. Hereford cows in calf mad© £4, and tho heifers mado £3 2a 6d. •There were buyers operating from tho West Coast and as far south as Studholme.
