Islington (St. Helens), and H. O. Hernfe (London) are among the guests at Warner's Hotel. A motion of sympathy was passed with the Rev. H. J. Huffadino his congregation in his present illness; by the Council of Christian Congregations at its meeting last night. The promotion of Major TV. TV. McKinnoy to Liout.-Oblonel, and to command the New Zealand Army Service Corps, has been gazetted. Lieut. I£. W. Smith assumes command of the Southern Depot, New Zealand Army Service Corps. Mr C. .13. Foweraker, lecturer in charge of the Canterbury College School of Forestry, leaves for Hanmer to-day to assist in the course of instruction for rangers of the State Foreat Service, which is being held this year at Hanmer Springs. When the City Council assembled last night, the Mayor; Mr J. K. Archer, said that Mr R.. C. Bishop, a Tery old colonist who had served the city for several years as a had died recently. « He moved "that thjs Council expresses fsß«Buieere sym>pathy with the widow and relatives of the late Mr It. C. Bishop in their sad bereavement." The Councillors stood and adopted the motioa in silence. In moving, at yesterday's meeting of the Tramway Board, "That the Board heartily congratulates the Hon. J. Barr on his ejection as (Chairman of Committees of the... Legislative Council," the chairman (Mr H. Pearce) referred to the honour done to one of tho public men of Chri6tchurch. Mr Geo. T. Booth, in seconding, said that he did not think that the Council could have made' a better selection. The motion was agreed to unanimously.
At last night's meeting of the New Brighton Borough Council, the following resolution was carried in silence: "That the Now Brighton Borough Council begs to tender its sypmathy with the widow and relatives of thfc late Mr E. C. Bishop in the great loss they have sustained. The Council further expresses its appreciation of the services rendered by the late Mr Bishop, who took an tiae part in the formation of the borough and was its first Mayor.
