Eric Jnmcs Richardson —breaking, entering, and theft. Robert Abercrombie Brown —ten charges of theft of moneys from a firm where he was employed as accountant. John George Burgess—bigamy. MAGISTERIAL. MONDAY. (Before Mr H. Y. Widdowson, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. Alexander Candlisli, aged 42 years (Mr M. J. Burns), pleaded guilty to one charge of drunkenness and to another of having broken liis prohibition order. Mr Burns stated that the defendant, who was a married man with six children, had had a salutary lesson. He had been in gaol over the week-end. Defendant was convicted and fined 10s on each charge; in default, 2-1 hours' imprisonment. CIVIL BUSINESS. Burns and Co., Ltd. v. W. Tnvlor, S"> 14s 9d; E. E. Munns v. G. Woods, £3* 8s Gd; Ellis and Co. v. T. L. Leighton, £ll 9s Cd; A. C. Palmer v. M. A. Bngg, £4 10s sd; same v. William James £l7 3s 10s: Strange and Co., Ltd. v. R. J. Smith (Rakaia), £lO 10s; Margaret Herbert v. W. E. Payne, £2 ss; J. Rattray and Son, Ltd. v. T. Broderick and Co., -costs only £1 9s; Roy Twyneham v. Albert W. Furze, £l4 7s Bd. H Wakefield was ordered to pay £9 15s lid forthwith to Hampton Bros.; in default, j ten days' imprisonment. DEFENDED ACTIONS. I
Herbert Charles Watson, hotelkeeper, of Papanui (Mr G. A. G. Connal), claimed from B T. Dav, of 54 Victoria street, Soutli Brighton (Mr C. V. Quigley), the sum of £SO alleging that under nn agreement dated April 16th, 1925, defendant agreed to purchase the lease of the Papanui Hotel and the stock and furniture, and to pay £SO as a deposit. After hearing evidence, the Magistrate gave judgment for defendant with costs and ex-, penses £4 18s. Alexander Finlay Anderson, gardener, of Christchurch (Mr E. J. Ross), claimed from Arthur Browning, boot importer, of 170 High street (Mr C. H. Holmes), the sum of £l4 10s Gd, for spraying and pruning work done at a property in Bligh's road, Papanui. Judgment wa3 given for plaintiff for the amount claimed, together with costs. RANGIORA. (Before Mr Wyvern Wilson, S.M.) For riding a motor-cycle on June 9th without a driver's license, Henry Lyle Hopkins was convicted and fined 20s and costs lis. A variation of an order under a judgment summons for the payment of £26 13s 3d to T. Joyce by J. P. Solomons, was made. Solomons was ordered to pay 30s a month. KAIAPOI. (Before Mr Wyvern "Wilson, S.M.) J. A. O'Neill, charged' with being found on licensed premises at a time when such premises ere required by law to be dosed, was fined 20s and coats, 7s. H. Pohio on a charge o£, cycling at night without a light was fined 10s and costs, 7s. Cecil Pearce, charged with failing to attend drill in accordance with the Defence Act, 1909, was fined Ss and costs, 7s.
