." A MODIFIED SCHEM?. The City* Council .was advised last night by ;the Electricity Committee that the matter, of Hagley Park lighting had been further discussed with Ct. Andrews and Mr R. B. "Owen,'who advocated a modified-scheme-involving eight lamps supplied overhead and seven lamps supplied underground, at an estimated'cost of ".£715, as compared with anestimated cost of £365 for twenty lamps if the work was carried but wholly overhead or £1556;f0r twenty 'bimps if all the. work was carried, out underground. A letter was also received, from the Christchurch Beautifying Association intimating that the Association woiild assist in the modified scheme by making a donation of £SO towards the cost, and undertaking to raise a further £SO by public subscriptions. The Association also expressed the opinion that the Domains Board would' give some assistance towards the modified proposal. "The,- Electricity Committee recommended'that, ..with a view to obtaining their pronouncement on the modified scheme, -the proposal be referred back to the local bodies concerned, and that Crs. McKellar, Ford, and Agar represent the Council in the conference to be called for the purpose. The recommendation was approved. .
