PUBLIC SERVICE CHANGES.
NEW SOUTH WALES POLITICS. Before tho Fuller Government went out of office in New South. Wales, Ministers filled every position that had either been created by extended. Government activities -or where vacancies existed. Many of these appointments did not meet with approval among some of tho Labour leaders, and it is 'on the boards, says the . Sydney "Sun," that some important changes in the personnel of the staffs of State departments are pending. The belief in official circles is that the rescinding of Mr MaeDougal's appointment as Comptroller of Prisons and the appointment cf Mr G. Steele, now Governor of the Long Bay gaol, to the position, which will take place shortly, is onJy tho beginning of these changes. The Public Service Board is sup-: posed to have charge of all appo'ntments and staff changes in tho State Public Service, bit according to the Premier and Treasurer, Mr J. T. Laine;, the Board itself has the sword of Damocles hanging over it. The Board is now composed of Messrs Williams (chairman), Speuce, and Telfer. Each member owes Iris position to the Fuller Government, and the three menv bers were appointed to act until th~y reached the age of 65 years. Mr Williams and Mr Spence h;we . about lo years to run, and Mr Telfer about 18 rears.
What tho Government intends to do has not yet been announced, but Mr Laing says that "something" is going to as the Government is" not satisfied with the Board as it is at prosent constituted. This "something" is to bo decided on almost immediatclv.
