THE AUSTRALIAN TEAM. In consequence of the Railway Department refusing to allow to the Australian hockey team the usual concession to visiting teams of travelling in first-class car's a# secondclass rates, tho New Zealand Hockey Association got into communication with Mr L. M. Isitt, M.P., and the Prime' Minister, tho Hon. J. G. Coatcs. • ; As a result, the following telegram was received by the Asscciatiou yesterday:— "Your further - telegram received; as a special case have approved Australian hockey team travelling, . without sleepers, on the Limited expfess first class at concession rates. —(Signed) J. G. Coates.'' CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION. Tho Management Committee of the Canterbury .Hockey Association met last evening. • Present—Messrs W. Williamson (cha.rman), H. W.. Rogers, H. Sampson, P. Hill, R. Cummings, J. Hill, H. Lamb, W. Bell, I. Davey, A. Smith, W. Grammer, P. Campbell, L. Cummings, and L. L. Smith. II was decided to accept the Grey Shield, to be competed ' for on the lines of the Petersen Shield, and t;> ask clubs with more than three teams to nominate which three of their team's whose points are to count for the shield. The New Zealand Association forwarded the suggested arrangements for the tournament at Wellington. It was decided to oppose the principle cf holding the tournament en the two-life system. Mr L. L. Smith was appointed to represent the Canterbury Association on vlie Tournament Committee, and "also as manager of the Canterbury team. The Wellington Association stated that in the event of Wellington defeating Auckland for tho Junior challenge Cup, the match would iiavo to be played later than August Bth. Tlia Mar.awatu Association asked for a suitable date for a match in Christchurch. It wa3 decided to suggest August 15th. The Wesley Club forwarded a donation to the Manning memorial fund. The selector forwarded the team.3 selected to represent Canterbury against Australia and in the tournament at Wellington. The Judicial Committee reported haying cautioned a Selwyn .B player for indiscriminate hitting. The Competitions Committee recommended that the senior grade competitions close at the end of the present round; the junior and third grade to be continued until furthat the senior glade competition rkse at the end of the present round. The suggestions were approved. The transfer of C. Hill frcm Trinity to 'Varsity juniors was granted. Mr A. Smith was appointed as raanagev of the junior xeprefientative team. The Entertainment Committee reported that all arrangements were well in band for j the entertainment of the Australian team. ! The Returned Soldiers' Association wrote extending a welcome to the Australian ; visitors. - , The Sydenham Ciub'a explanation regard- , ing missing teams' forma was accepted ana ■, the fines imposed remitted. . . , | The offer of space in the Rugby Lnions Guide was accented, and Mr JR. Cummings was instructed to forward the competing teams each week. , The Ladies' Association were granted the use of Hagley Park on August loth, providing that the representative match with Manawatu waft not played ©a tfl».t date.
