METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION.
QUARTERLY MEETING. The quarterly meeting of the Methodist Sunday School Union was held ,at Opawa. There was-a good attendance of delegates, and apologies . for absence .were received from Messrs'F. Thompson and H. Chapman. After the opening exercises, a very hearty welcome was extended to the. delegates by the Rev. W. 11. Speer. ' A. motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Mr F. Spratt,, a former member of the Union. A letter was received from Mr- TV. O. Brown, who, on account of transfer to Dunedin, was tenderine his resignation as examination secretary. The .resignation was accepted ■ with very great regret. Several members spoke in appreciation of the great service which Mr Brown had rendered to the Union,, and as a small expression of the esteem in which he is held, he w,as presented with a gold-mounted fountain-pen. Miss' I." K. Croasdale was elected to fill the • position of examination secretary, and Miss G. Jones to take Mis 3 Croasdale's position us I'r.ess reporter. .... A letter was received from Ashburton asking for someone to be appointed to represent them at the meetings. Miss Cran was appointed to the position. ' . '" A committee consisting of Messrs Bascana and' Francis was set up «to purchase a Bible for the use of the president at the quarterly .meetings, the. names of all the presidents to be inserted therein. •It wns left with the executive to confer with the Bible Class Union representatives with, a view to running a combined picnic on Labour Day. ' During the afternoon a very interesting letter 'was reeoived from Miss L. M. Jones, who left about a year ago to take up mission work in the-Solomon Islands. The address for the afternoon was given by Mr Speer, who took for his subject ."The Pure Heart and the "Vision of God."' The address was very helpful and inspiring, and was most suitable in view of the fact that 1925 has been set apart as a year for spiritual advance. The teachers were then entertained at tea by t tho Opawa teachers, who were heartily thanked for their hospitality.
