MT. HUTT ROAD BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Jit. Hult Road Bond w»« held on Monday. Mr Jas C'arr presided, and there were also present—Messrs John Watson, 1\ W. Ruddenklau and T. S. 'Harrison. On the '.notion of Mr Harrison, seconded by Mr Watson, Mr Carr was re-elected chairman of tho Board. Mr Harrison reported that members of the County Council had recently inspected tho hydrant ■ blocks in the township, which were the subject c£ a complaint irom tho Board. They found them satisfactory with the exception of a. few that were placcc} too high. Tho clerk reported on the position of tbs proposed new load leading from the Ashbur- ' ton read to the new railway trucking yards. The cost of the r°ad was considered too high in comparison with the immediate bonefit to be derived. The question of electric light poles encroaching on the new footpaths on the mam street was discussed, and it was decided ] to approach the Power Board to see if they could be placed pn the kerbing. ; It was considered that the sharp cornet at the eutra-noo to the railway yards was an obstruction to traffic at that point, and the clerk and Mr Watson were asked to interview the District Railway Engineer at the first opportunity with, a view to having- i this altered. The matter of the purchase of chaff fo> the. Board's teams was left in the hands of Mr Gcodwin and the clerk. The fencing of reserve 1891 was reported to requiro attention and Mr Harrison was appointed to confer with the County Council with regard to the matter. The martins then adjourned on the arrive! of the Hon Sir R. Heaton Rhcdes. Tho Board accompanied the Minister lo the site of tho proposed new road leading from the ealeyarda to the railway trucking .yards. Tho Board have nrcviously endeavoured to get the npeofsary eanction. to open- up a. road, but so for their efforts have been unsuccessful. The Minister, who was ehowu" the many advantages that would follow th ; o opening of the roa-d, promised to do hjs host to further tRo matter. The ( Minister was thanked for his attendance. On returning business, the clerk renorted that the Ashbuyton Borough Council had forwarded a. quantity cf fire fighting plant on loan for two months. Mr W. G. Hillier, of tho Borough Council, had been instrumental in having this material sent, and a. vote of appreciation was accorded Mr Hillier and the Council for their sjwjManca. The question of forming a volunteer fire brigade was discussed, and the Board decided to call a public meeting of those interestedThe returning officer reported that the following lisd been elected members of tho Mt. Hijtt K<iad Board for the ensuing year: Messrs Jaa. Coir, F. W. RuddenWau, Jno. Watson, T. S. Harrison, and W. W. GocdCorrespoadenco was received from the Ash. burton County Council advising that grants of £5 and £ls had been made to the Highbank and Methven Cemetery Boards respectively. , .
