A STORY OF WOLFE.

DOCUMENTS OF GREAT HISTORIC INTEREST. Two documents of great historic interest, and never before published, were exhibited to the Gaelic Society of Inverness recently by Mr "William Mackav. One is headed "To David Bruce, Judge Advocate of the King's Army ir» Scotland, commanded by his Eoyal Highness the Duke." It is dated on the back "Fort Augustus, July sth, 1746," and contains instructions for j the arrest and treatment of prisoners accused or suspected of treason or rebellious practices. The other document is headed ] "Orders given by General ffolfo atj Point Levy on the River St. Lawrence and near Quebec," and consists of in-j structions to British officers and the I army about to take part in the siege of Quebec and the famous Battle of the Heights of Abraham, which completed j the British conquest, of the Trench in j Canada. i Wolfe was at the time Commander-in-Chief of tho British Army. Tlio authors of these two documents, tho | Duke of Cumberland and General Wolfe, fought together for King George at Cullodcn, the former being twenty-five years old and Wolfe nineteen. It is recorded that, as Cumberland and Wolfe rode over tho battlefield after the close of the hattlo, a wounded High' land officer named Fraser eaniled defiance at Cumberland, whereupon the latter, turning to Wolfe, said, "Wolfe, shoot'me that Highland scoundrel who dares look at us with such contempt and insolence." Wolfe replied: "My commission is afc yonr Royal Highness's disposal, but I never can consent? to beeomo an executioner."
