OPAWA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The Opawa School Coramittco met on Monday. Present:, Messrs T. W. West (chairman), J. H. Coleman (secretary), Pycroft, McDowell, Maguinoss, Palmer, and the Rev. W. H. Specr. It was agreed to write to the Education Board and again bring before them the need of the infant school so long promised, and urging the speedy provision of a sufficient sum for the purpose, copies of the latter.to be sent also to Messrs T. H. Armstrong and J. McCombs, M.P.'s. The committee discussed at length the position with regard to the dental clinic, which is still unsatisfactory, and appointed Messrs West, Coleman, Pycrofl, and McDowell to wait upon the Dental Officer of the Health Department to arrange, if possible, for the treatment of Opawa children at either Sydenham or Beckcnham. The use of the infants' school was granted to the returning officer for Lyttelton. for next election as a pollingbooth. Communications were before the committee from the Citizens' Bible-in-Schools Propaganda Committee urging that the com-; mittee request the member for the district to support the Religious Erercises in Schools Bill next session of Parliament. A resolution to this effect was passed. The headmaster's report showed the enrolment to be the samo as last month, but the average attendance had greatly improved. Repairs had been effected to the drains, and the cellars were now safe from flooding. The sanitary system was, however, defective, and the secretary was instructed to write to the Board and request immediate repairs. Authority was given the headmaster to have an,area at the bock door of the school re-asphalted. The chairman announced that arrangements had been made for a joint conference of the committee and teaching staff on school matters at an early date.
