A Melbourne cable states that a deputation of Australian whisky distillers asked the Tariff Board to impose the regulations and .purity standard applying to the manufacture, of Australian whisky, on imported spirits. It was stated that unless immediate relief was granted, an industry in ■yvjiich £500,000 was invested would bo compelled to close down as the result _of unfair competition by imported spirits.
A Melbourne cable states that the Federal Government has arranged to wirelessly broadcast to ships at sea, a daily news service.
A message from Melbourne says that Deputy President Webb, of the Federal Arbitration Court, announces that he was unable to fix a definite date for the hearing of the steamship owners application for the deregist ration of the Seamen's Union.
