ORGAN RECITAL.
* Air Arthur Lilly, A.R.C.0., vriil fjivs lp. organ-recital in St. John's Church, Latlmor square, to-morrow, at 8 p.m., the occasion being the opening of the organ after being considerably enlarged and altered. The erg .in was built in ISISI bv Mr G. AL. Holditch. oc London, and i-rcjght c.«i lo C hristchurch by the late Archdenicn llsrper. who oicct-id it in t!ie south transept. In 1£76 it was inbuilt and considerably aeide-d to by Mr E. H. Jeni:in=. are', the ore-sent organ chanil>cr was buih for the enlarged instrument. A ye::r or two inter t.hres lucre stops v,e;-s added to the swell, ar.'J tome to liic great organ by the fi:st organist, Air Landergan. In 1909 tho '.-reran was taken down and thoroughly overhauled in- Mr 11. Brett, of this city. In iD-2'.J Air Brett commenced an
expensive rebuild and enlargement, which has just been completc-d, and whicli adds considerably to tile tonal eftrct. In tho previous rebuild the st.c!l organ was- placed over tlw preat organ, which cr-used a loss of t-ono to tho full great. The swell baa no'.v been lowered six ,:eet, on to a new building frame behind tl;c great organ, also pneumatic action installed to swell and pedai organ. The old nodal organ contained cnl/ i" notes, but this has been replaced by a rev concave anl radiating pedal boiird. Ii.C.U. pattern. 30 r.oics, wj-.h up-to-date pneumatic aciici!. Tiie swell organ has been provided with Ihre? composition pedals and two couplers. The front pipes liavo been redesigned cr.d redecorated, which hi-, made a great -improvement. The i; now blown by n 1?- elrctric fan '/lower. The v.-hole of tiii.= work lu; been under tho specification and supervision of Mr Arthur Lill;.
