The Rublic* Speaking CfaSs decided on Monday, evening to provide the whole of the programme for the social evening to be held in June. "" Miss D. Farnie, W.E.A. tutor of the Literature Class at Geraldine, in a letter to the secretary (Mr G. Manning), reports that the first night of the class took tho form of a gramophone evening. There were over fifty students present. The programme consisted of a number of vocal and instrumental selections by some of the . wori.'i'9 best musicians. An outline of the course of study is: Literature in reference to the mastery of the English language, as a key to knowlodere of human nature, as exhibiting the glory of the commonplace, ap. a vision of the" ideal, humour and jiteraturoj and the romance of ideas. A suggestion that one evening should be devoted to Scottish literature, or to the poet Bur™, is to be acted on, and the Scottish residents In the community are to be asked to contribute one or two items.
