OPAWA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The Opawa School Committee met in the school, when the lollowing were present: Messrs T. W. Weat (chairman), Coleman (secretary), Smith, Palmer, Pycroft, Maginness, Speer and Boyce. The headinaeter was also in attendance. After preliminary business the meeting, by a standing vote, expressed its deep sympathy with Mrs- Massey and family in the lamented death of the Prime Minister. The following were appointed representatives of the School Committees' Association:—The chairman and Messrs Pycroft and Palmer. A Works Committee wad set up as follows:—-Messrs Pycroft, Smith, and McDowell. The director of the Health Hygiene Department wrote stating that it would be impossible at present to make provision for a dental clinic at Opiwa, but the needs of the school would be met by the nurse stationed at Beckenham, a dental chair to be provided when required. The committee deferred consideration of the matter tili next meeting, lne headmaster's report showed the enrolment to be 375 and the average attendance for the opening week 356. ■ During the recent heavy rainfall the cellar flooded owing to the drains being defective. As a consequence' it was impossible to light the furnace and the school was not !»■*» for some time to the discomfort of both staff and scholars. It was resolved to draw the attention of the Board to the state of the drains. The long delay in the completion of the school buildings is srannq.a serious handicap to the work of the school. The committee appointed the Rev. Mr Speermd Mr Palmer with the chairman, m a, deputation to wait on the Education Board a its next meeting and urge greater expedition in the matter.
