Tbo Jiving Mile Championship, mir uwior the auspdw* of the Pioneer Sports Club fit North Beach <m Hbtnrday, resulted in some fast time*? being rounded on the electrical clocking device. The conditions were not tho best, the beach being on the soft sido and n strong wind facing the riders. Undoubtedly a few seconds would have heeu clipped off the tunes by the more experienced riders had the <-onditions been perfeet. Additional interest was lent to the r;xmg by the appcaranco of S. C. Stratton, the wellknown New Zealand track rider. It was unfortunate that Percy Coleman had to leave to fulfil an. engagement in tho North Island, for a meeting between the Now Zealand track cham-. pion and (George Lambert, th* New Zealand beach champion, would hare proved highly interesting. Tho local rucinjr men were well represented, and T. C\ Whitlow. L. P. Poore. H. L. Dyer. L. C. Monclcman, and A. iSmith :ill cot into prominent places, whilo George Lambert further confirmed his title to heat-.li champion. Whitlow, who has been gaining considerable experience on the beach this year, rode well to gain first place in ihe up to ;iSO e.e. class. Poore who carried off the club's Bonnington Cup last year is slill riding his Triumph consistently well, and his performance in scoring wins in the up to 500 c.c. -end up to 700 c.c. classes spoke well for machine and rider. Lambert jut up the remarkable speed of ofs miles an hour in winning" both the up to .1000 c.c. class and the unlimited class. The consistency with which he has been racing on his five-year-old Indian is remarkable. Last year he attained a speed of 09 miles an hour under more favourable beach conditions.'and in doing Viti m.p.h. on Tuesday he fully verified the accuracy of the timekeeping on the former "occasion. It is worthy of remark that in both his victories he did the mile in exactly the same time—--37 4-os.
