MR MASSEY'S HEALTH.
LATEST BULLETIN. WIDESPREAD SYMPATHY FOR PRIME MINISTER. (t»ES;: ASSOCIATION- TELEG-RAV.) WELLINGTON, March 31. Tho following official bulletin was issued at noon to-day:— The Prime Minister passed a fairly comfortable night, and his strength is well maintained. (special to "ihh PRISg.") WELLINGTON, March 31. The main subject of conversation in tho capital to-day is the illness of the Prime Minister, and it is indeed extraordinary to find how universally he is esteemed by the people. By letter, by card, and by telegraph, messages of sympathy began to pour in yesterday, and to-day the stream has greatly increased. Messages have come from the remotest parts of the Dominion, and from all sorts and conditions of people. ,One of the first received from the Mother Country was from a former Governor, Lord Ranfurly, at present in residence at Dungannon. Members of both Houses of Parliament, friends, acquaintances, and strangers, have expressed their sympathy, and the good wishes come from all shades of political opinion.
Dr. Carrick Robertson is returning to Auckland to-night, so apparently nothing further in the way of a surgical operation is contemplated. As generally happens in such cases, all sorts of rumours arc in circulation. The Prime Minister's condition, no doubt, is grave—so much can be surmised even from the carofully worded medical bulletins—but apparently his life is not in immediate danger, and everyone is hoping for the best. A meeting of Cabinet was held this morning. The Ministers in town are the Hon. Mr Nosworthy, the Hon. J. G. Coates, the Hon. Sir Jas. Parr, the Hon. G. J. Anderson, the Hon. E. F. Bollard, and the Hon. Sir Francis Bell, Acting Prime Minister during Mr Massey'e illness. (press association ,telegram.) WELLINGTON, March 31. Early this morning Mr Massey's condition was unchanged and he was resting comfortably. As migbt be expected, messages are coming in from all directions, and resolutions of sympathy are being passed by public bodies. A meeting of the Eeform League, at which four Ministers were expected to speak, has been postponed indefinitely.
THE LATEST REPORT. (pkess association telegram.) "WELLINGTON, March 31. (Midnight)". Mr Massey spent a fairly good afternoon, and settled comfortably for the night.
