RUM-RUNNING.
BRITISH STEAMER SEIZED, CASE TESTED AND LOST.

A teat cafie affecting the whole rumrunning situation between Canada and the United Staes was completed to-day when o4 officers and men of the British steamer Quadra were found, guilty and remanded for sentence., and the ship and cargo, worth £300,000. confiscated. The' Quadra, had, a huge cargo for Mexico when she left Canada, but en route she lay hull-down off the Golden Gate selling liquor to American launches which conveyed the cargo ashore.
The Quadra's captain claimed that the vessel was on the high seas but th« Court ruled that it was within the* 12-mile limit.
Owing to heavy seizures by Government agents the rum-running trade from Western Canadian ports is almost at & standstill.
