AUCKLAND BUSES.
. « TRAMCARS OUTNUMBERED,
(SrECIAi to "the pbjsss.") AUCKLAND, March 27. Thero arc more motor-buses plying for hire in Auckland than there are tramcars. An official tally of the buses gives their total as 182 at the end of last year, and there are 175 tramcars. The Tramways Department has ten motor-buses in commission and twenty on order, but this fleet must be placed in a distinctive class, for the reason that its service is singular. Originally, tho purpose of these buses was to serve as tram feeders, but several of the present fleet arc engaged in a brisk fight with the freelance motorbus competition, competing with trams for custom.
The administrators of the tramways have made a close secret of the reasons for revising the existing scale of faros and concession tickets, but all citizens seem to know that the cause is the serious loss of revenue. It is even said that for the first time in the history of transportation in Auckland there has been no normal increase of revenue.
