ADVANCES TO SOLDIER SETTLERS.
MINISTER'S ANNOUNCEMENT,
(FSSS3 ASSOCIATION TELEG&IU.) March 27. During a discussion with the Ardkecn soldier settlers, the Hon. A. D. McLeod, Minister of Lands, made an important announcement regarding his proposals to facilitate advances to soldier settlers. The Minister stated that it was his intention to put into effect legislation providing for the capitalisation of the value of improvements made by settlers, with the object of relieving current accounts, and enabling Land Boards to give further assistance in the matter of advances for stock and other expenses. This would moan that, where money for advances was used for purposes which could rightly be classified as capital cxpenJiutrc, it could be capitalised and repayments spread over a number of years. Hy this method advances would be available for stock and for ordinary working expenses, and the drain on limited current account would not be so great.
