At the last meeting at Trentham Licinius, conceding Shirley 111b, finished in front of her. and now has only another lib the worstof tho weights. The fact that Lidniiw has not raced in the- meantime may not assist him in to-day's contest. Star Area should again race well. Though 'Mountain Lion has been raced extensively this season, it does not seem to have done him any harm. It is not a really jgood field opposing him in the Autumn Handicap at Trentham, and he may add a portiqn of tba stake to his already good total accruing from sixteen placing in twenty-six starts this season. He will probably again have C. Eniarspn as his pilot. Spoony and Stork 6eem his strongest opponents.

Kinjr Merv, Fillette, and Pilliewinkie are likely to show improvement on their first day's form, from the fact that thav will be meeting smaller fields in 'their respective • engagements, koth King Mcrv and Pilliewinkie, too, would appreciate the hard going move than most of their, opponents. G. Jones has not yet left Mr T. H. Lowry's employ, says an exchange. All the oldest horses have gone back to their owner's station, but Jones is staying on to break in two riaingtwo-year-old illlies. Both are by King John, one from Chimera and the other from War Talk.

Happy Days has, gone south to Winaatui, and will probably jobl Monoxide in C Giesekr's team. The acceptances received last evening for the two big events at tuo Canterbury Jockey club's Autumn Mwtuig reduced the field for the Gmt Eaeter Handicap to 23, and for the Great Autumn Handicap to 10, but there are still plenty of good horses m both races to provide keen contests. Last» year after first acceptances there wets sixteen left in the Great Easter Handicap and fourteen in tho Great Autumn Handicap. Tho general entries show a slight increase on last year'B tho total being 217, as against 210 laat year. Tlie programme for the Invercargiu Trotting Club's first meeting on April 2Sth and 29th discloses stakes to the amount of £I9OO. The principal events will bo a3 follows:—lnvcrcargill Trotting Cup (harness), £250 (including a cup valued at £25, presented by Mr J. B. lliomsop), class 4.50. (2m), on the opening day, and the Trotting Club Handicap (harness), £lB5, class 4.50 (2m), on the concluding occasion. The spsrint events include:-—Recovery Han« dicap (saddle), £llO, class 2.28 (lm.), and Au Eovoir IBDandioap (saddfe), £l2O, class 2.24 <lm.). J. Mcsservey will leave for Wellington on Monday with Onyt and Thixeadale. Onvx is engaged in the Tree for AU oil the first day, and will probably race in one of the handicaps pn the concluding day.

Tho Nelson Trotting Club, which was granted an extra trotting permit, will hold its Autumn Meeting on Saturday, May 9th. The programme is under consideration and will bo published in a few days. The Hawke's Bay Trotting Ciub proposes to hold its first totalisator meeting on May 23rd.
