TWO RIDERS DISQUALIFIED,
As the result of an episode whieii occurred during the Mairehau Cycling Club a meeting at the English Park Stadium last Saturday evening, the Mairehau Club has decided to suspend" F. J. Carey and A\. Mackio for 3 2 months. The charge against C»r«v was that of bumping an opponent, while Mackio was suspended for alleged flg which led. to the Club's action in the matter occurred at tho eos Awn » the invitation scratch race. It is stated that as the entrants in the event were coming up the straight for the last time Carey was seen to swerve from the inside of the track almost to the ootsido fence. Mackie, who was riding near the fence, was bumped by Carey's machine, and was nearly thrown. Both riders, however, slowed down and a bad crash was prevented At the conclusion of the race both men circled round the track and appeared to bo exchanging blows Carey then was stated to have ridden on to he grass to dismount, but Mackie, who had already got off his machine, appeared to have rushed at him and pushed him off his C7 At'a meeting of the Committc of the Club hold on Thursday evening, signed statements were received from both Carey and Mackie, each of whom alleged that 0. J. howden. who was also a contestant in the race, was responsible for the whole of the trouble. The Club decided to exonerate feowden from blame There is a likelihood that the decision of the Club in this instance may be upset and Mr W. 3. Walter states that according to the rules of the New Zealand AthleMß and Cycling Union the riders cannot be disqualified for 12 months as ruled by the Cl The whole matter will probably be considercd bv the Cent™ of the Lnion in the course of a few days.
